How to check that all words of a given course are in LTM?

Hi,

I am looking for an effective way to quickly revise an entire course and to find any words that are not in LTM - because even though Memrise thinks they should be, my memory does not always comply. Some of the earlier courses I have completed, for which I am rarely asked to review anything definitely contain words that I can’t remember.

It seems that speed review picks a random set of words from a course so is not so useful for checking over an entire course. What about classic review - will that work through all the words in a course in sequence? If not, is there any other approach I can use? It seems a pity to not be able to identify words that I need to work on a bit more to properly remember them.

Any help/thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Barry

There are 2 possibilities

  1. if you are a paid user (pro user) add those words to difficult words that you think you need to do more
  2. if you are a free user just make a private course out of words that need to be revised

Hi Barry,

I agree with Atikker’s suggestions above and:

  1. If there are a lot of words in a level you don’t know, you could always restart that level (under the “Options” drop down arrow).

Hi Attiker, DW7,

Many thanks you for your replies. My question was more about how to find out which words I have forgotten from courses I have previously taken. I don’t see an easy way to do this.

When I know which words I have forgotten I can see there are various techniques (like those you mentioned) to practice these, but it is working out which words are forgotten in the first place that is the issue.

Thanks,
Barry

Using the ‘classic’ review level by level is really the only way to go through a whole course to see what you can’t remember.

Getting something wrong will make it appear on the review schedule, but when you get it right it’ll probably go back to the long spaced schedule fairly quickly so using the above suggestions (‘difficult words’ or creating a course) is worth considering.

Hi Leggi,

Thanks for your message. I’ve just been trying out your suggestion - and even with the Classic Review there seems to be a certain amount of randomness in the order in which the words are selected for review (I started doing classic reviews of a 247 word course and remembered the first word that came up so I knew when I had been through all of the words, but the word came back up again after only 50 or 60 words and other words showed up multiple times too) making it impossible for me to know when and if I have reviewed all of the words of the course.

Maybe I am being too much of a perfectionist wanting to check for any words that I might have forgotten. I guess I will have to to do multiple speed reviews on a given course and hope that it hits most of the words in the course.

It would be good if there were a way to be able to fully review a completed course though.

Thanks for your suggestion,
Barry

Is that reviewing by level?

If a level contains less items than your words per session setting you should be able to do review the whole level at once.

[/quote] possibly, I know from personal experience it’s hard to let go if there’s words out there you think you don’t know. You can spend a lot of time chasing the lost words, or a lot of time learning new stuff!

No it wasn’t - i clearly didn’t read what you said properly. I see that it is a lot easier to do it by level.

In retrospect its easier just to look at the list of words on a level by level basis and add any to difficult words that I don’t feel overly confident with (provided that it doesn’t take so long so as to detract from new learning :))

Thanks for your help
