How do you type Hangul?

I did some quick browsing around and nobody else seemed to have been asking this question.
I saw in the FAQ that there was suppose to be an on-screen keyboard during lessons, but for me it’s not there. I have tried changing my computer’s keyboard to Korean and I have tried adding a keyboard extension to Chrome that had Korean. But nothing has worked and I’m stuck. Could someone please help me?

What operating system are you using? What browser?

I’m on a Mac. On OS X I can go to keyboard in System Preferences and under “input sources” I can enable various keyboards that come with the OS. I enabled “Hangul - HNC Romanja”, which lets my type Hangeul using keys that roughly correspond to the same sounds in English.

If you enable the option to “show keyboard and character viewers in menu bar” then you also get a flag indicating which keyboard is currently active at the top right of the screen, and when you pull down the menu from that flag you can select your keyboard and also select the “keyboard viewer”, which lets you see which key will type which character. If you press shift or control or any other modifier key while the keyboard viewer is active, it’ll show you what character will be typed by the corresponding modified keys.

I really should have specified. I am using a chrome browser on a windows 8 PC. I have changed my keyboard language and I can see on the built in on screen keyboard that it is indeed in Korean. But it is listing Korean second, and I can’t seem to access the Hangul characters. I have tried cntr+shift+f; cntr+f; fn+f; alt+f; alt+shift+f; fn+shift+f. Now that I can see it, I just want to access it. Ugh, why is something that should be so simple, being so difficult.

So you are able to see this?

If so, then you change between English alphabet and 한글 using the key ‘한/영’ (right from the Space).

Yes, that’s exactly it! I can see it, just not use it

Well if you can see it, then if you type you should type in 한글 and if you don’t then press 한/영 button to switch between English alphabet and 한글.

Thank you! It works!

So do you have to download an alternative keyboard to use it? Seems pretty complicated

I think you should be able to install Korean keyboard via the Control Panel, if you use Windows.
That’s what I did.

For me, I just invested in a dedicated, physical korean keyboard hardware. It seems to me it’s the only way I will really be able to learn korean. Virtual keyboards can be fine to start with but with time they are not convenient, you need to pause between every carachter you type, etc.
I had to put the price though, since I live in France.

Windows (All versions) has both the ability to mimic the Korean keyboard (With an English one)as well as an on screen (Touch or not) keyboard you can bring up. Easy to switch back and forth between. I found several websites with tutorials on how to turn it on.
