How do I type Korean characters on a western keyboard for Korean Courses 1-7?

I am on a laptop with Windows 10. When I do the lesson, it asks me to type in a Korean character for the corresponding English letter, however, a keyboard does not pop up for me to use on-screen. How do I type these characters in the lesson?

Thanks,
Confused and confounded…

It’s not going to automatically bring it up in the OS unlike Android and iOS. You’ll need to follow this link. You will also need to install the Korean keyboard layout.

You go to 'Control Panel" -> “Clock, Language and Region” -> "Region and Language"
Select “Keyboard and Languages” at the bar at the top of the dialogue. Select “Change keyboards”. Click “Add”. Scroll down to “Korean (Korea)” and select “Microsoft IME”.
Then you have it installed. You can toggle different keyboard layouts with “Windows”+“Space”, and toggle roman/hangul with “Alt Gr”.

You can also use this site, and copy/paste from it, but I recommend to install it as I said, on your computer.

Thanks for the info! I was able to download a Korean keyboard to interact with the memrise lessons.

I have another question about using a Korean keyboard. When I am working in the Korean Pronunciation Skeleton lesson, it doesn’t register that I have typed the correct Korean spelling. It keeps saying I am slightly off and therefore, I am not moving forward. Does this have something to do with the keyboard I am using?

You have to complete the syllable before it can register it as correct.

Andreas,
Thank you for your reply. Somehow, though I type the correct characters to complete a syllable, the program is not registering that I typed them correctly. For example, if the program wants me to type in:

가거

It will not register that I typed it in correctly. Does that make sense?

Ah, then I don’t know. You can try copy/pasting from hangulime.com to troubleshoot perhaps.

Thanks, I will try to figure it out.
