How do I create a good course?

So, I’m not quite sure what category this question should be under, but I am currently creating a course based on Duolingo (primarily because I noticed there are a couple of unfixed issues with the Spanish and Italian Duolingo-related courses) and I was wondering, how would someone create a proper course? To what standards should I adhere? I have many, many questions, but some easier questions are:

(1) How does the database system work?

(2) How do you add quality audio, and from where?

(3) Is it truly better to add individual words to databases than to add them to a lesson?

(4) What’s the best way to utilize columns?

(5) When inputting words, is it better to have everything de-capitalized?

I’m trying to create a quality course (not only for the community but mainly for me, too), but Memrise is quite confusing albeit, not as confusing as Anki was when I first used it. Any help would sincerely help me figure things out!

Hi JJ,
Those are a lot of questions en they are rather broad. I don’t have the energy right now to try and answer them all. Did you already read the FAQ?

Before thinking about capitalization, an important question is whether you want a strict typing course or not.
I would recommend to look at some other courses to check which lay-out they use before setting up your own course. And then experiment with a smaller course first. Because your goals are very ambitious. Especially the Spanish Duolingo course is very long.

I have been working on a sequel to some of the existing Duolingo Spanish courses myself for a very long time now.

I’m at over 1300 new words already and nowhere near the end of the tree. And that does not even include this year’s update to the Spanish tree which I have not received yet.

Have you thought of contacting the Creator (or any Contributors) to offer solutions or fixes.

That way the course improves and everybody gains.

No. :frowning: I thought about it, but this is my first time using forums, so I’m not sure where to go and how to use the platform yet. And the course themselves have different users maintaining it, so I’m not sure who to speak to about it.

Hi @Tocr, if you give us a link, I’ll look if there is a Forum thread already set up and link you to it.

But as has been said before it’s good to practice with a dummy course - that’s how most of us started.
