Hit a wall with Japanese 0 level 3

I don’t know if anyone else has found this problem, but fundamentally since you need to know the characters to spell the words, it becomes increasingly difficult the more complex the words are as not enough time is spent on kanji in the first place. It feels as if I will need additional resources outside the application to get any further. I just keep having to learn the same volcab over and over again because I simply cannot remember the kanji. It would be massively helpful if when you put the cursor over the character, it spoke out how it sounded. This would speed up learning a great deal. As it is I’m just guessing all the time and progression is painfully slow.

My suggestion would be to take relevant community courses as a supplement. As a starter, you may find this course useful. It drills the readings of N5 level kanjis:

uhm, what Kanji do you mean? In Japanese 0 Level 3 there are only hiragana.
As far i see & learned (just completed Japanese 0 yesterday), there are no Kanji in Japanese 0 Level 3.

If you mean things like あ、お、の、め、し etc… - those are Hiragana, not Kanji.
Hiragana & Katakana (they come later too) are the basics you need to learn effective.

my recommendation would be, to use hiragana learning apps to get more used to them. i agree with you that memrise alone isn’t ideal for learning hiragana & katakana, and that you need more than memrise for that (atleast i did, even if memrise already does a good job). so i give you a few recommendations you can use additional to memrise for hiragana & katakana & kanji.

Android Apps:

  • Hiragana Pro (for learning hiragana)
  • Katakana Pro (for learning katakana)
  • Kanji Go (for learning kanji, hiragana, katakana)
  • Kanji Study (for learning kanji, hiragana, katakana and few other things)
  • Anki (offers a lot of decks by users you can use for learning hiragana, katakana, kanji etc)

Websites:

  • Jisho.org (kanji, hiragana, katakana dictionary for researching new things you don’t know yet)
  • Google Translate (translate.google.de - not the best, but still helpful in a lot of cases)
  • kana.pro (learning hiragana & katakana)

also there are for sure a few user created courses here on memrise who teach you more about hiragana & katakana.
