So I’m new to memrise and enjoying it very much.
I’m an university student so I travel 2-3 hours a day by train and like to do something useful then. So I decided on lerning japanese. I noticed that I can type hiragana in the web version, but in the app it doesn’t accept them as valid.
I’m currently doing the “Introduction to Japanese” and “Learn Basic Japanese” by jlptbootcamp. I’m using IME on both devices.

From the screenshot you have provided, you are being prompted with kana character and must answer with the romanized characters.
The creator of the course expects you to type the romanized characters. This is why the hiragana is not being accepted.
Further down the courses you’re learning (Learn basic Japanese and Introduction to Japanese), you will then be prompted with English and tested on Japanese.
