Hello! Let's introduce ourselves :)

Hi! I’m Emily. I just thought I’d make a post to introduce myself and meet other ‘memrisers’ I guess.

I got started learning French on Duolingo. I’ve been on there for over two year now, and it was there that I learned about Memrise. I made my Memrise account and started A1 French. But doing Duolingo and Memrise at the same time was a bit difficult, so I decided that I would put Memrise on hold until I finished my Duolingo tree. So I did! I finished my tree a few months ago, but am just now getting into Memrise, and I love it. It’s so fun, and easy to do just a little bit of learning every day with it, and I find myself practicing for hours at a time.

Do any of you have Duolingo accounts?
I hope I can make a lot of friends here on Memrise, so feel free to comment about your language learning experiences.

Hi Emily! I’m Kamila. My native language is Polish and I teach Italian in a high school. I’m crazy about languages and memrise  I use it for learning Swedish, Finnish and Russian. Why these languages? Every language has its own story. Russian because I studied it at school (I had to choose a second language) and I fell in love with it. It’s very similar to Polish and it’s quite easy for Poles to learn it. Finnish… my fiancé is half Italian half Finnish and I wanted to impress my future mother-in-law ;). In my opinion it’s the most difficult language in the world! I have been learning it for about six years and I haven’t mastered it yet… and maybe I will never speak it. But I don’t give up and and I really enjoy it. I started learning Swedish when I watched Millenium trilogy, I was in particular impressed by the first one “Män som hatar kvinnor”. I fell in love with the language and… Michael Nyqvist- the actor from those films  .
I use Memrise every day and I discovered Duolingo just a few days ago and in my opinion it’s a little bit too easy and less serious than Memrise but I’ll continue and see where I’m going. I also use Clozemaster. Do you know it?

Cheers

Wow! That’s very interesting. Yes, I agree Duolingo is very easy, which is why I started with Duolingo, because I knew I wouldn’t get to a very high level, and I just wanted to start out with it so I knew most of the basics. No, I’ve never heard of Clozemaster, I’ll check it out!

Hi! I’m Maxi from Germany. I’m 12 and I go to the 7th grade. I don’t learn with Duolingo. It’s a good app, but Memrise is better!
I learn Italian, Indonesian and a few more languages with Memrise. I have Memrise for one year.

Hello people. I’m currently doing the spanish courses and also discovered a few interesting psychology/healthcare courses that I’ve joined.

I started out with Duoling Spanish but got a bit discouraged by the “back to start” policy but I still use it daily, only not as much as Memrise.

Btw, I’m from Norway so should anyone need some assistance in norwegian feel free to contact me.

Hello everyone. I’m Fatimah, Canadian, and have been learning Egyptian Arabic on and off now for about a year and half. Memrise is a bit frustrating because it doesn’t provide much in the way of grammar, but I love it for vocabulary.

I think these are a lot of languages to learn . I love memrise because you can create a streak, the streaks help me very much with learning al these languages. I have 6 streaks I do every day, my highest is now on 260 .

Hi @Blue_Basket_Girl, I’m a bit late to the party, but I thought I’d introduce myself

My name’s Amie, I haven’t tried Duolingo as I found Memrise first and I love it  I’m a native English speaker and I’m currently learning French, I spoke it when I was younger, but I moved school and they didn’t teach it, so I forgot much of what I had learnt. It’s slowly coming back to me thought Memrise though

I think having the skill of being either bilingual or multilingual is really important in our modern culture, plus I’d love to travel, so having more than just English under my belt will (maybe) come in handy  When I’m finished with French I’d like to pick up Mandarin, and hopefully German, plus revise some Maori I used to know (I lived in New Zealand for a while) but I’m not sure if I’ll find the time while I’m at uni… Hopefully I will!

I wish everyone good luck with their courses!

Hello, hello, hellooo  My name is Martin, I´m from Slovakia but I´m not a new member on Memrise. I had my account here since year 2013 or 2014. I do not remember it exactly

I must say Memrise teach me some useful staff. From my young age I had a big passion for traveling and knowing whole world so I took the Country Mapping course, finished American States and Capitals and Capital Cities all around the world.

As you suppose, I´m a native Slovak speaker, so then automatically fluent Czech language speaker. I learning English language more than a 15 years, so I can say that I´m almost on a fluent level but I need more experiences with English speaking people to reach this goal. Currently I´m learning Spanish. I started here on Memrise with basics, and now I has it as a subject on the University. I really love Spanish accent!!

At the end of my „brief“ introduction I´ll do a little promotion of myself

Hey. Have been here for quite some time, but never got around to introducing myself. I’m Belgian but live in Korea where I’m doing research.

I have been learning several languages on and off, to different levels of fluency. I used Memrise a lot to drill myself with Chinese, Spanish and Korean vocabulary. Though I must admit it has become much less recently.

My big project now is to become fluent in Korean, and I’m using the big guns to hopefully get there soon.
If you feel like following me in this project, check out my blog and feel free to leave a comment or even subscribe the mailing list to get updates along the way. Even better, why not join me in this endeavour?
