Have mercy on app users

If you have created a course or you are a contributor. Please, please, please put your username in Short information box. It’s the only information app users can see.
If your course has additional information that is only visible via browser, please, leave a note there also

Lot’s of great courses but no information about creators & contributors in app version.

Thank you very much

Many thanks, I was beginning to think that.

That is why (as a non-app) user, I have been asking what they see (and what they don’t).

Please visit it to see the questions more clearly.

Thinking about it and with what you have told me (elsewhere - eg multimedia levels are not displayed in the app), I’m tempted to add “For support and more info see web version” - if I have room in the short description box.

or even “For support from DW7 and more info see web version

This does not help much…Who made this course? What is a New forum? Would be great if there were Contact me (@username) via community.memrise.com

Thanks for drawing the example above (volcanoes) to my attention. It is one of many that has not been revisited yet so does not have my user name and fuller comment. (I have started with courses that have the greatest number of users, which a course search with “DW7” will list).

Because the “Short Description” is used to advertise (encourage someone to start the course) it is important to describe the course as best as possible.

As this space is very limited, it is very hard to put all that information in that short space.

As the web version of the course has a full course description and multimedia levels that are intended as part of a course, I think anyone interested in finding out more or commenting on the course should be encouraged to go to the web version.

After all, this forum is on the web isn’t it, and not within the app?

So putting something like “For support from DW7 and more info see web version” hopefully says it all.

Personally, I think advertising the fact that the web version has more information and that the Forum is available, should be up to the MemRise staff adding reference to it on the app, not for us to squeeze it into a small course description area.

So to summarise, I agree with your original statements:

Please, please, please put your username in Short information box. . . . . .
If your course has additional information that is only visible via browser, please, leave a note there also

This forum is phone-friendly (displays differently). Memrise web version is NOT. That’s why I made this thread. You can put quite a lot information into Short Description (if they haven’t changed it).
I didn’t know it was your course, DW7. I just wanted to point out that if you (or any creator) are going to put something in SD, please add a username, so I can contact you in forum. If we are going to wait until memrise staff does something… it’s going to take a huge amount of time…( for example I’m waiting 2 months to be able to modify mems… still waiting)
I know a lot of ppl who use Memrise on phone only. It would be great if in course there were mentioned the forum site: community.memrise.com

This forum is phone-friendly (displays differently).

That’s good to know - thanks.

Memrise web version is NOT.

That’s sad - but what I would hope is that someone keen to find out more would use a tablet, laptop or computer and go to the web version.

I didn’t mind you using my example, as it illustrates the need for more information.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of courses have ANY information in the short description field and of those, how many have gone back and added suitable “contact me” information.

What do the official MemRise language courses say? (Shown in the short description.)

Are they getting the message out in the short description that they can be contacted via the Forum?

If they are, then perhaps users are being educated to that fact.

Do their courses also have fuller (web version) descriptions and multimedia levels?

Official courses do not have information about this forum in their SD.
Although they should have

I’ve noticed that some of the courses I’m supporting don’t even have a short description (as they were created before that field was added) and if the creator is still active, then I only want to mention the forum not my name.

I’ve experienced this problem so many times, I’ve created a bug report.

It rather puts me off going through all the courses I support, at the moment.

Invite everybody.
Anybody who is already added username and/or community.mermrise.com to
their courses’ SD should reply and tell that they are

I’ve experienced problems saving the Short Description so many times, I’ve created a bug report.

It seems to me that two attempts are necessary for the information to remain.

This is possibly because without the short description, MemRise shows the first few lines of the long description on the app (although this is not shown in that field when editing, it may be linked).

If you are right, maybe it is enough to start the long description with
naming the active creator/contributor and the website.
