Grammar exercises without translation

Hi all,

I have a question, I would like to add grammar exercises to my course. I know Memrise is typically used for learning words, but I am using Memrise to study for my Spanish classes. My teacher puts exercises on a traditional study website, but I prefer to use Memrise. And so far it’s worked wonderfully, passing both exams with flying colours.

But the last exercise she posted has me confused.

So what I would like to add is something along the lines of:
Question: Nosotros tenemos dos hermanos. … hermanos se llaman Daniel y Santi
Answer: nuestros

Do you guys have any creative ideas on how I could incorporate this into Memrise’s system?

Thanks in advance.
Mariebel

There may be a way to get Memrise to do what you want, but probably not easily…

You could put your sentence in the prompt/question column and your missing word in the answer column, but I can see at least one potential problem with this setup:

If you have more than one question where the answer is “nuestros,” you could get multiple choice questions where the listed answers have “nuestros” more than once. Unfortunately, only one “nuestros” will be correct. The other “nuestros” will be wrong, and there’s no way to tell which is which. (See: Alternatives are not recognized)

Anki does this kind of thing much better. Here’s the section in the manual that explains how to make it work: Cloze Deletion

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I saw that problem as well. I thought about using Anki, but my classmates use my course as well and I prefer to keep it all in one place.

I think the only option would be to use something like this:
Question: nosotros tenemos hermanos
Answer: nuestros hermanos

If anyone has a better suggestion I would love to hear it.
