I’m going to be finishing the A2 course in the next 2-3 days. I was doing the A1 course when they came out with the new courses so I just decided to continue with the old A2 course rather than try to find where to start on the new ones. My question is, where do I go from there? I don’t see any official B1 course offered by Memrise but are the user made ones worth checking out? Is there another app/website I should use for B1 learning? Thanks!
The staff is saying that the new courses are equal: 1-3 =>A1, 4-6 => A2, course 7 => B1. I haven’t done all the official German courses, so I can’t comment on that if they actually are or not
Ah ok. Thanks. Is 7 the last official course?
I believe so.
Here are some German courses that I’ve found useful:
5000 Words (Top 87%) Sorted by Frequency - Since you’ve already completed A1 and A2, you could skip the early lessons in this course and start it where it starts exposing you to vocabulary you haven’t seen yet. This course is actively maintained and has audio.
Deutsch für Euch - This course is based on a YouTube channel, and has a mix of both beginner, intermediate, and advanced lessons. This course has audio, and I am one of the contributors.
Comprehensive German Duolingo Vocabulary - If you’re also doing Duolingo, this course is great. Even if you’re not, you could skip the early lessons and pick up the course where you start seeing new vocab. This course is actively maintained and has audio.
Advanced German Michel Thomas - This course has no audio, but is great for practicing whole sentences, verb conjugations, and verb tenses. If you’re using the website, I recommend that you use MemriseTurbo* with this course.
German Idioms - Who doesn’t want to learn amusing German idioms like die Kirche im Dorf lassen, Hahn im Korb sein, and ein Schwein haben?
If you’re looking for something to do outside of Memrise, I highly recommend Clozemaster. Clozemaster consists of thousands of sentences with one word missing. You can either type in the missing word or select it via multiple choice.
*Memrise Turbo:
If you’re using Firefox, you’ll need the addon Greasemonkey. For Chrome, you’ll need Tampermonkey. If you’re already familiar with GreaseMonkey/TamperMonkey and scripts, you can go directly to GitHub to download and install Memrise Turbo.
This script is designed to advance you immediately to the next question, without the usual pause between an answer and a question. The added bonus, the feature that’s relevant to you, is this: it advances as soon as it recognizes that you’ve typed a valid answer. If it doesn’t advance, you’ve got a typo! You simply have to learn not to press the enter key anymore…
Hello,
is that your own experience (for that language)?
Can you maybe give a link where this has been stated by Memrise or any user?
FAQ: http://feedback.memrise.com/knowledgebase/articles/955108-a1-and-a2-language-courses
Quote:
“Courses 1 to 3 are equivalent to previous A1 courses (beginners).
Learners of A2 courses (intermediate) should choose courses 4 or 5.
Courses 6 and 7 are at B1 level (upper intermediate/advanced).”
I have no idea if this may be more language specific?!
In the forum some posts have been done that, 1-3=A1, 4-7 = A2 will relate somehow to old course A1/A2 replacements (if I remember correctly).
I have no idea and it has neither been cleared in that thread, which I had seen earlier, how this information relates to the above Memrise statement.
Somehow it is hard to believe for me that once I have finished PT5 in the next days, I will already be starting at B1 level with PT6+7
This information is taken from last year’s forum post when those new
courses came out. Lien stated that in several posts. course 6 is still A2,
not B1

I’ve done all of them. I don’t know what makes level 7 that much a higher level than the previous ones.
It felt the same.
Have you already tried the Easy Polyglot series?
“Learn German for Polyglots
An easy way to learn the German language online for free. Learn vocabulary, grammar, conjugation & phrases (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1).
Each word is translated in English, Spanish, French, Italian & Portuguese to help you if you learn or already know these languages.
Thanks to Mem Creators, Contributors & Users. Feedback: www.facebook.com/EasyAcademyWeb”

Although I have to admit that I have not yet started the EasyPolyglot courses for Portuguese, so I have no idea how good they are.
The quantity of contained words and levels is quite huge.
So it might be comparable for good to one of those upper-intermediate “5000 / 6000 and more frequency words list” courses (or even better)???
The offical PT1-5 courses and the contained longer phrases / sentences are quite exhausting for me in the long run, as I am using Cooljingle’s user script “All typing”
Almost can not catch up with the reviews and finished PT1-4 courses…
But I guess you learn more in that mixed way, than just simple vocabulary (only words)?!
You have no idea how much I was missing that feature from the app. I’m so happy!
LOL. I’ve now like 30 Memrise’s scripts. Goodness gracious me.
I don’t think you’re doing yourself any favors. Breeze through the material. It’s supposed to be fun, not hard. You can always do the typing exercises once the material is more familiar to you. You’re not gaining anything special by doing typing all the time. You may learn a few words better but it also means that your overall progression forward is that much slower. So what is the upside?
You’re just sacrificing one thing for the other. My opinion is that you’re just ensuing frustration.
If you’re worrid about retention then I’m scoring over 90%, while doing hundreds of questions in a multiple choice format.
I’ve just scored 100% in Japanese Kanas. That was very cool.
Maybe it would be advisable to take the path of least resistance? Just consider it.
I’m not sure what makes German 7 B1. Seems too basic for intermediate level.
they had weder noch in A1 plus plenty of example phrases, but no phrases in the new courses and weder noch is thrown in a random ‘‘fuel for your vocab’’ as one of the last things in German 7. The new courses just seem sorta lazy to me.
Your course feels more like a B1 level to me. I’m doing it btw. Thanks for creating it.
Yeah the memrise one is pretty basic.
Hey thanks! My B1+ course is pretty unorganized though. I need to go back to it and tidy it up a little. You will probably like my ‘‘Servus’’ course better since it is a lot more organized, and I add about 40 words to it daily.
