I’m a fairly new user to Memrise so apoligies if I’m missing something.
At first everything seemed normal and I gained points at a correct rate. Then a couple of days ago I start being awarded points at a crazy rate.
I’m trying out multiple languages to see which I’m going to stick with, and despite what level I set the Daily Goal at, the iOS app tells me I’ve completed my daily goal after only a couple of minutes.
I’m only using Memrise for about 10-15 min per day on each language and yet suddenly I’m appearing on the Leaderboards of most of the languages. This surely isn’t correct.
Further to my above post, my homepage on the Memrise website is now telling me that I spent over 23 hours learning with the app over the last 24 hours - which is clearly rubbish.
I only use the iOS app, so all I can think is that you have to completely kill the app when you’ve finished using it. I can’t seeing it been this as that is contrary to Apple’s app design guidelines.
How many points did you gather? Because I think it may be a possibility that you joined a course which not many people use so the leaderboard isn’t very hard to get to and thinking that you make a lot of points because it’s so easy you got on the board? It’s just a suggestion from what I’ve read
That’s a normal amount, if you do a perfect speedreview on the website you could gain about 3600, I tought the app would give just a little more. (I used to compete with someone on a course and used to gain about 40.000 points trough speedreview a day ). But a 100.000 points is a pretty big number for someone who just started on one course, if you don’t do memrise for about twenty to thirty minutes a day it’s very unlikely the number is correct. I think the amount of points is correct, you just do a lot more memrise than you think you do
But I gained 34000 points on the leaderboard from one speed review that took about 3 min and in the app said it was worth 1300 points?
Also my homepage on the website tells me I’ve spent over 23 hours in the last 24 hours learning. Seeing as I slept for about 8 hours and went to work, that’s obviously totally wrong.
Oh. I’m sorry, didn’t see it correctly, was mainly focussed on the 1300 points you said it gave you. Indeed the 34.000 points isn’t correct, I don’t have any clue how this could happen, probably a coding bug. You should contact one of the moderators who are active here in the community, they could help you out further I hope. I tought you had to use @ and then the name but im not quite sure… Hope it will get fixed soon .
Personally I’m not really bothered about the points, I just want to try out a number of languages, before I settle on the 2 or 3 I want to concentrate on.
If this continues I’ll be near the top of the weekly leaderboard across multiple languages!
Actually, is it just this one course you have this problem with or all the courses you do? Because there is another topic about some people gaining a lot of points in very few minutes, maybe they have the same problem?
It started a few days ago across every language that I’m currently taking a first look at. I’m doing no more than 20 mins in each language, but I’m tearing up the Leaderboards in a crazy way. Something clearly isn’t right.
Ok, I will inform people on the other topic because they are banning people… Hope they won’t ban the wrong players who just found out about this bug and ain’t cheaters…
I’m a paying Pro member who subscribed through Apple, I’ve joined this forum to highlight the issue, and I’ve emailed support.
I’ve no interest in gaming the system and I’m far too old to really give a stuff about points and Leaderboards. I just hope they sort it as I know some people use it as a motivational factor, and it makes a mockery of it, if people like me are cruising to the tops of Leaderboards due to a bug in the system.
I’m experiencing the same problem and I’m relieved to see that I’m not the only one. I remember just having reached 17 million points in total yesterday, so I was quite surprised when I continued learning today and found myself already knocking on the 18 million mark after only a handful of reviewing sessions à 25 units (and surpassing the 18 mil by almost 200k just by trying to figure out the problem via a few additional sessions). My points in the weekly and monthly leaderboards also skyrocketed accordingly. I re-installed the app without avail, but I assume that the latest update, which I installed last night, has something to do with the problem.
I, too, would be mortified if I was to be banned because of any suspicions this bug might create. While I generally like the point system as a motivational tool, I also couldn’t care less about the competitive aspect and I would hate to have any ill-gotten points get in the way of my pro membership and my usually extremely rewarding learning experience with the app (iOS by the way). Any help or consideration of the problem would be greatly appreciated!
