French 1 or French 1

I’m confused. There appears to be two different French 1 courses:

What’s the difference between these two courses? I’m currently taking the second course. Should I be taking the first one instead? How may words are there in the second course (there are 473 in the first)?

When I finish this course, which French 2 should I take? And which French 3? Etc.

(It would be useful if Memrise would title the courses with different names, including the year or something. That way people would know what’s the latest and greatest course.)

The content of the two is very similar. I would guess that this one (2142070) is the American English version (based on it’s use of the word ‘pal’ for ‘un[e] pote’ in level thirteen), and this one (2021573) is the British English (as it uses ‘mate’ as the translation for ‘un[e] pote’ in the same place).

The French 2 you progress to depends on whether you favour British or American English, though there may be very few differences between them overall. This (2021575) is French 2 from British English and this one (2142073) is the same course from American English. (You may notice the course numbers for each 1 & 2 in American English and 1 & 2 in British English are near-sequential to one another respectively, meaning they were probably released at the same time, pretty much.)

Hope this helps. I must say, I was confused by this separation early on when choosing German courses, as most learning platforms don’t make a distinction between variations of English, they simply either account for both in the possible translations or just go for one or the other. If you set your ‘I speak’ language to American or British English, the search page will give you primarily courses that are specified as being in whichever you prefer.

Yes, one is the English version and the other is the British English version. I completed both of them. The British English version looks like it’s completed but there is no message saying the course is completed. I don’t know if all the users are having this problem. Both of the courses are excellent and I’ve learned how to compose sentences better.
