French 1 (from English) apostrophes

Some of the words/phrases in “16. Don’t Get Lost” (and possibly elsewhere) contain the ’ (right-single-quote, U+2019) in place of ’ (apostrophe, U+0027).

Apostrophe is easy to type, while right-single-quote is not. So when given “the entrance”, I type in “l’entrée” and then stare in wonder that it’s not considered correct; the reason is that the answer contains a single-quote instead of apostrophe, meaning the two don’t match exactly.

All phrases in that module containing a single-quote:

  • est-ce que c’est loin ?
  • c’est à dix minutes en bus
  • vous devez descendre à l’arrêt Saint-Ambroise
  • de l’autre côté de …
  • c’est à combien d’arrêts ?
  • l’entrée

Could they be fixed (replace the single-quote with apostrophe) ?

(The difference between the two characters may be difficult/impossible to see, depending on the font used and rendering.)

@fanny_sta, @MemriseSupport: I’ve come across this as well. Could you guys please see into this?

@fanny_sta: That was quick, thank you!

Would you please also bring this problem to your colleagues’ attention? I’m afraid I don’t remember exactly where this happened (I do a whole host of languages) but I’m certain that it occurred in other courses/languages as well. Regarding French it could well be the same in the DE-FR course, but other languages (such as Italian, Swedish, Dutch, etc.) could be affected as well.

@Olaf.Rabbachin My pleasure!

We checked all the other courses and have corrected them too (it happened for a few items in the Chinese course and the English courses). All fixed now. Thank you for your caring :innocent:

I am seeing this in French 7 with l’étoile (and others but this is where I stopped to see if the problem is a known one).
