Forvo Phrases Download

Hello!

I’m having an issue with downloading phrases from Forvo.
When it’s downloading a word, there’s no problem: I just press a downward arrow under the word, and the pronunciation is mine.
But when it’s a phrase, there doesn’t seem to be a way of downloading.
Right-click + save doesn’t help since it only saves the page, not the file.
Is there any way around it?

Thank you!

there is no way of downloading that, unless you’re a master of scripts. I’ve asked forvo, and they confirm that phrases are not for downloading and they will maybe consider sometime making them available, in some nebulous future… They have to make some money as well, I suspect the phrases are for paying customers

I see. Thank you! At least now I know for sure.
The only way around I’ve figured out so far is to upload phrases for pronunciation claiming they are words. Then users add a pronunciation and its downloadable.
But the phrases added by other users previously are out of reach, sadly.

yeah, made me furious I cannot download the phrases i’ve requested myself (don’t make the mistake to mark something as “phrase” in the future :))

Unfortunately, this is a hit or miss approach. Some of the language editors are likely to remove those which are really not words. But, I have had some success with this if the phrase is not too long.

I ended up using the “Sound Recorder” program that came with Windows 8 to record my ‘phrase’ audio from Forvo. It came out in lower quality than those downloaded directly from the website though.

There are addons/extensions for this. I’ve just tested the Firefox addon Video DownloadHelper and that works.

First play the sentence, that makes the addon see the sound file and that makes its icon go from grayed out to active. Click on the icon and select the sound file you want to download.

That seems to work well! Better quality and a lot less work. I had actually installed that very plugin for something else, but I never bothered to really learn how to use it.

Thanks for the tip!

Thank you for the new direction of thought!
I added and activated the Chrome Video Downloader Professional addon, but unfortunately it doesn’t see any videos either before I play the phrase or after (multiple replays:).
So, it didn’t immediately work for me, but I think I will chase it down some time later.

Many thanks again!
