I heavily relied on the review count for what course to cram for next as I prep for the Jlpt in December. Please bring back the number of items to review. It used to be so convenient for me to know which section to study next. Now it takes much longer. The red circle is where it used to be.

The latest v2.3.47 update on iOS is buggy in terms of these counters for words to be reviewed (should have appeared on the left drop down panel on iOS app) AND the words considered to be difficult.
In the level home screen of a particular course, the orange counter is supposed to track the difficult words only. But now it counts all the IGNORED words as DIFFICULT words! What’s more buggy is that if ALL words are being ignored on a particular level, then the orange counter works fine. But if only SOME words are being ignored on a level, then the orange counter will count those ignored words as difficult words!!!
Agreed! I feel this is an issue for multiple reasons. The main reason being as you said not knowing if you need to review and if so what. Because if you dont have to review anything it will still suggest classic review but without that counter you have no idea how many you need to review (rather than adding the individual numbers up).
Do you also have the issue of the badge icon not being up to date and being blank? I used this as a motivational factor as I hate having a badge number. The issue arises from not being prompted to allow notifications.

This bug appears also in iPhone app for v2.3.47 on iOS 12, iPhone 6
I’m having the same issue on my iPhone and iPad since upgrading to the latest version.
same issue at my devices. iPhone 6 and iPad 3.
No number count and progress indicator.
Have to use both the app and a computer in parallel to see, in which course I should repeat.
Additional the app crash, when I try to delete a course, I created before.

Same issue. I think their sync code has bugs concerning updating and displaying the values. P1 bug.
Mine is an ipad air 2. Same problem.
New update 2.3.48 is just out today. While it fixes most of the issue regarding the missing review counter / mistakenly-counted difficult word counter, the TOTAL review number per course at the course list panel (top left drop down panel) and the TOTAL review number at a course’s “Next-Up” menu are DIFFERENT to the SUM of review counts at a course’s all-level homepage.

Hmm, when did this go out? I have not seen a Memrise update for days now?
…that was interesting. I had to remove Memrise on my iOS 12 iPhone and get it back to get the 2.3.48 version… review numbers are now back again so the regression was fixed.
