I don’t want notifications to appear on my android phone and neither do I want email notifications. But I cannot find anywhere to turn them off, how can I do that?
Hi @Furthy34,
I’ve sent you a DM to help you with this. Please check your inbox.
Best wishes,
Memrise team.
Would you be so kind to also tell us what needs to be done? Or should we just report this to you guys as users cannot change this themselves?
I had a direct mail from @memrisesupport advising me that I can click on unsubscribe at the bottom of emails and I can disable notifications for Memrise in settings on Android. Thank you!
You need to go to settings on your Android phone and then to notifications and you will see Memrise and then you disable notifications from there.
We’re in the process of finalising an FAQ for this. I’ll post here with a link when it’s done
If you can’t see Memrise in your notifications section, it would mean that you didn’t give the app permission to send you push notifications. If you experience further issues with this, please contact us directly at https://memri.se/support or in the app and we’ll investigate further.
Best wishes,
Memrise team.
By the way, @MemriseSupport; while the email notifications which prompt you to do a review session have gotten nicer (layout wise), they are never to the point. That is, they do neither contain all languages where I learned new words nor do they (usually) contain all words for the languages listed. LMK if you’d like to investigate further, I could collect and send you some examples.
Thanks for reporting this Olaf, I will forward this to our CRM team. If you could provide some examples, that’d be super helpful!
Thanks
@MemriseSupport: here’s a fresh example from this morning.
I learned the following (in this order), all EN-[target language] and due for repetition, if not otherwise noted:
- 3 words in “Learn Italian Grammar”
- 3 words in “Russian 3” (official Memrise course), lang: DE-RU; notable: one of those 3 words is due for repetition in 6 days, for whatever reason);
- 4 words in “Swedish 5” (official Memrise course)
- 4 words in “Advanced English (C1, C2)”
- 5 words in “5000 most frequent Dutch Words”
- 3 words in “Welkom terug! neu B1”, lang: DE-NL
- 5 words in “5000 Most Common French Words”
- 3 words in “(308) Advanced French Expressions”
Altogether 30 words across 8 courses and 6 languages.
And here’s the email (excerpt) that I received at ~1pm and which contains 6 words across two languages:
This behaviour is consistent in so far as that I don’t recall ever having seen all “learned words” in the email reminder.
Let me know if you do need further examples.
@MemriseSupport: here’s another example from this morning.
I learned the following (in this order), all EN-[target language] and due for repetition, if not otherwise noted:
- 5 words in “Learn Italian Grammar”
- 3 words in “Russian 3” (official Memrise course), lang: DE-RU

- 5 words in “Welkom terug! neu B1”, lang: DE-NL
- 5 words in “5000 Most Common French Words”
- 5 words in “(308) Advanced French Expressions”
Altogether 39 words across 8 courses and 6 languages.
And here’s the email (excerpt) that I received at 12:23pm and which only contains 3 words of the first course I learned in (althoug I learned 5 there). So, this time, it only covered 1/6 languages:
I’ve always thought that it was intended to be that way. Only a notification letter with some items, not a list with all the words to review. Though I agree that a full list is more coherent.
Hi @Olaf.Rabbachin,
Thanks for sending these details.
I have checked with our team, and they confirmed that these emails will only include a few words that you have to review, not all of them.
I hope this clears any confusion.
Best wishes,
Memrise team.
Yes, it does - thanks. I do wonder though as to why it does. Particularly, if the email only covers one course and even then it sometimes gives you as much as a single word when you learned ten on that course. Not all too useful, IMHO!
Hi all, here’s the FAQ
Best wishes,

To stop receiving push notifications, please go to your notifications section in your device settings and disable Memrise.
@MemriseSupport Do you know that you are offering a lame way to turn off notifications? I guess you know. Especially lame for a business which has a budget of milllions euro and trying to be a top player in its field. Usually developers are building in-app switcher before they start sending anything, but Memrise is a marvellous exception.
