I’m talking about the little guy that changes every time I level up. Instead of having one that looks the exact same as everyone else’s, I would like one that looks different. We can use our experience to buy clothes, or hair, or faces, or what-have-you.
It would give me something to do with my experience. That way, instead of just achieving feelings of self-accomplishment through learning, I can actually use it to buy something tangible and show everyone else how much cooler my alien is than their alien.
Why program this?
It’s fun
Probably mildly addictive so it’ll keep people around
Give people more incentive to learn (and get more experience)
Why not?
“It would be fun and I hate fun”
Specifics:
See how dumb that hat looks? It wouldn’t be so dumb if you could let me spend those 1.2 million points on a cooler looking hat.
(unfortunately, if you click your profile in the upper right corner, or “log out” you get to see the stupid ugly crab again, but thakes is out from your dashboard, the least; playing dolls with that thing supposed to be fun? addictive???)
This to me seems like something that would require more dedicated development, so unless there’s overwhelming approval, I doubt it becomes a thing. Good to hear your feedback though.
I think the fact that people are unhappy with the alien thing in general is good to know.
Hmmm, very interesting. I didn’t know the current system was a later iteration of their ranking system. Since they made such a large change just over a year ago (with such heavy backlash), I doubt they’re in a hurry to create a project team for another overhaul.
I think what I’m asking for is something like this what this user suggested:
Specifically the ability for users to choose what they want. If they want nothing, sure. They can purchase that with their points. If they want something else, they’ll need to gain experience to buy it.
Your previous post reminded me of a good point though. Memrise can’t solely take into consideration the opinions of those on the forum. What kinds of users frequent the forum? Older users.
Perhaps I’m mistaken, but I doubt your 12 year old god-son spends much time reading through feature requests on the forum.
We certainly agree on that, but that feature is not being added, despite multiple requests…
I would be a very happy godmother if he did and actually understood something, learning English is the reason I signed him up to Memrise.
My point was that liking or desliking Ziggy isn’t (only) about age.
I understood your point. Your response just reminded me of a completely different and unrelated point
I wish they would do something, but understand that they have a finite development team and there’s probably much higher priority issues than something like this, which is bound to take a lot of time and inevitably receive a great deal of backlash regardless of what decision they make.
