I primarily use the web version of Memrise and I study both official courses as well as custom ones that I create with words that I run into in conversation, reading, and the like. When entering these words, I sometimes have typing errors that I would like to correct. It would be awesome if I could edit these immediately when I run into them rather than having to cancel out of the current study session, editing the course, finding the word, saving it, and then going back to studying. If we could edit them directly within the study session (or even report errors in official courses) it would greatly improve the workflow. Thanks!
I often stop to “edit” an item while studying a course I made. When I do that a new tab is generated. However, after making the edit and sometimes adding new words, I find there is no “save” button only a “Back to course” button, which does not return me to the word I was working on.
If I go back to the original tab nothing has changed. If I close this tab with or without saving, the tab reloads and I am back in an overview of the course levels. Now I have two memrise tabs, neither of which allow me to continue where I left off.
What is the best way to go back to where I left off (with the “edit item” changes visible)? At this point I don’t know if my edits were saved or deleted, down a memory hole, or in some inaccessible place in another dimension.
You can edit them at the same time on the web version, you just hit “edit” and the word to edit opens in a new tab. I have done this thousands of time on my Chromebook in the last few years.
Hi, if you make edits, they’re immediately saved, I think. For some reason there’s no need to hit the save button. This also applies to adding/editing audio clips.
But if you pause a learning or revision session that’s running in one window (or tab) and do the edit in another window (or tab), the edit won’t be visible until you start a new session. In other words, if you want to see the effect of the newly edited version, you’ll need to “Save and exit” the current session, then restart it.
Note that all this applies to the current Memrise web version, and may be different in Decks - no one knows yet.
Ian, if i understand correctly, you’re suggesting closing the new window in which the edits were made and returning to the original window, then, to see the edits, reload the page, and select the level. otherwise there is no way to pick-up-where one left off and see the edits.
I edit / correct so often that I sometimes find seven or eight memrise tabs open and have no idea which ones to close.
That doesn’t sound good. I did some editing on one of my courses a couple of hours ago, and things went normally (as far as I can tell). I know there is some disruption to Memrise happening right now related to a Bot attack, that’s preventing new course creation but is not apparently affecting edits.
I’ve just done some tests on one of my own courses, and everything worked normally.
I tried editing an item in a level, by clicking “edit” (top right), and that worked fine.
I then tried editing an item that came up in a review session; I clicked on “edit” (top left) that switched to a single-item page, I made an edit, then went “back to course”. This time it went back to the course home page, so I couldn’t easily pick up where I left off. But the edit did work.
You may have run into modes of operation I’ve never seen.
No, I don’t think you need to close the window where you made the edits, but doing so will keep your screen tidier.
So, if you go back to the original window (which you may have paused), and you carry on where you left off, you won’t immediately see the effect of the edit. But if you hit “save and exit”, next time the item comes up you will see the edit.
Note that if you have a large course with many levels, it may be best to open a specific level for learning or reviewing. That way, you’ll know approximately where you left off (i.e. the level you were working in).
