[Feature Request] App Feature Request

Please allow the option to remove typing exercises from the app. Also, add “reading exercises” to language courses review. to be precise exercises that involve matching words with translations, instead of translations with words.

On the Android App you can already configure ‘no tapping’ in settings. Is that what you mean?

I thought the multiple choice questions of now have that option. They test both ways. Perhaps your I idea is different. How?

i agree with @John_Baite and yes the multiple choice questions DO have that option and if that isnt true. Then I dont think the Memrise team will make it a “new” feature

Perhaps you should be allowed to disable typing when you make a course. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Its not a feature and its not going to happen

But it is on mobile so use the app

I hope you can soon tho.

No, I meant the spelling exercises in language learning like this one:

For learning, we do have that option in multiple choice, but I want to have it in review. This is the sort of multiple choice we get in review I want it to be the other way around:

Okay, well I do get the ‘typing’ questions both in the planting (=learning phase) and the watering (=review) phase.

During review, the first few times the (Android) app seems to ask a multiple choice, and then the 3rd or 4th time a typing one (i.e. when it is due to be reviewed). If I do an extra review, I get more multiple choice than typing.

Can anyone give a more definite prediction when typing questions appear during review?

I noticed recently on the web that for review the questions are nearly always typing questions. I noticed that on the app a mix of multiple choice and typing is presented. When I go the same time on the web (I have a back-log af about 200-300), I get exclusively typing, except when the answer wrong. Then the word is presented for a second time in the same session, and that second time as a multiple choice question. Possibly this only applies to the ‘higher’ streaks of having the word correctly.

I have noticed though that it also depends on how the course is built, i.e.:

  • whether a column is set to (non-)typing
  • whether in the sentence is (very) long - in that case I get tapping questions to tap each word and put them in the right order

In short: I believe that by default typing questions occur during the review phase, unless the sentences are very long (word tapping questions) and where typing is turned of for that column by the course creator.

If anyone is interested:
During learning, the pattern is usually this:

  • the meaning is presented
  • 1st multiple choice presenting the foreign language word
  • 2nd multiple choice presenting the word in the learner’s own language
  • typing question presenting the word in the learner’s own language where the learner needs to type the word in the target language
  • repeat 1st, 2nd and typing.
