60%? Why? If a course is set for typing tests and the preference of the user is typing tests why not 100%?
So far when I’ve reviewed I’m getting all typing tests so maybe that 60% is not correct. I understand the point of having multiple choice during the learning phase because you don’t yet know the word … though often I do but I’m using memrise more to make sure I can spell correctly at this point.
For those of you who miss the timer, have you tried the speed review?
If that’s too fast (and it is for wordy courses) perhaps we can ask @MemriseSupport for 3 different speed options (thus restoring the timer to suit all users at different stages or on different courses) .
Agreed. I am the same. There are many words which have similar meanings, It can take a few tries to pick the correct word, or in Japanese remember with or without tenten.
I think legacy version would be a good option until all the bugs are worked out. Given the negative feedback about the changes at this point, I would say they are not worked out…yet.
So if your still working on the new technology stack, and clearly there are many features which people require that are not available in this new version, why not simply allow the legacy version option. Give people the choice. If Beta testing is required, this rollout has shown much more needs to be done to bring many of these features over.
It is not that many can’t recognize the workload on the developers for this new redesign. But it is not clearly not ready yet.
Just the delay between loading new words and phrases has already made me ‘rage-quit’ (jokiingly) in exasperation at the delay.
Two days ago I completed my first Learn New Words session using the new format. It was really disappointing. The whole session was just multiple choice. Previously the Learn New Words sessions finished by free typing all the phrases/words learned but this didn’t happen at all.
Also previously the day after a Learn New Words session I would be prompted to revise the content learned the previous day in Classic Review but so far this hasn’t happened. The Course Details screen shows the newly learned content with status bars, half full (
It’s not a glitch, you haven’t finished your learning session. Now learning session are divided into two parts (at least). Items on your screenshot are learned at half, you need to start your session again, in which you should get two rounds of typing.
You were right. I started a new Learn New Words session and it contained the same content as the last session. However there was still no free typing component at the end.
As per the screenshot it looks like the Learn New Words session for these phrases is finished.
Note that if you allow users to use the older version of the site, none of these problems will occur.
Basically, updating is to solve a problem, not to create it.
When doing “speed review”, I get an English word, and get 4 choices in Japanese Hiragana, among which I need to select the correct one.
With the old interface, when selecting the correct choice, we did for 2 or 3 seconds see the Kanji variant of the correct choice. This is very important for me, without that I only ever get to see the Hiragana version.
Can this please be reimplemented?
I believe that currently this is the most efficient method for course creators to make quick corrections while doing learning or reviewing sessions on their own courses.
A second tab, with all levels open in edit mode just sits there until needed - and there’s no need to hit ‘save’ after making a edit.
Ctrl-F can be used to open a search box, in case anyone doesn’t know.
