The iOS app is not that bad. I use it every day. I doubt you get any more stability with the Android app.
Memrise team - any update on this?
It saddens me that this bug is apparently still present almost a year after this was opened.
I am aware that paying for pro will āresolveā it, but it seems extremely shady to say that the app and all levels are free when you actually have to unlock all levels of the app (except level 1) by purchasing pro. If the app is only for paid subscribers, fine, just say so.
Iām just going to be using the website from here on out.

It is certainly strange, because the PRO offer on the website doesnāt talk at all about unloacking levels. This is how Memrise themselves offers and describes PRO:

This kind of unclarity doesnāt help anybody. I agree with you: if levels 2 and up are only for Pro, fine, itās their choice; just say so! I believe with the Android app this is not a problem, but I canāt confirm, because I have Proā¦

I always try to update every time there is an update for the app hoping to get rid of the bugs but it seems the developers do not care about it anymore, if so why should I keep the app on my phone ?!

Everyone can test the latest Android app versions for themselves on a computer by installing an Android emulator software (KOPlayer, Bluestacks, NOX, Memu, Oracle VirtualBox, etc.).
The Duolingo mobile apps clearly show me, that the later / most recent versions are not always the best; actually they get worser and worser (e.g they removed landscape mode after V3.72.2, they remove clubs lists + titel/subscription with V3.80.2+, removed XP announcement for the top winner of the last week with later versions than V 3.80.2).
Most important: Disable store auto-update.
If the app works for you and you are satisfied. Donāt upgrade!
You cannot easily downgrade on IOS to a previous version!!!

My wife just started using the IOS app, and this is happening to her. I use the same app, but I have been doing it a couple years, so I must have made the cutoff.
This is very disappointing. At least if Memrise admitted it was intentional, weād have an answer.

I realize this is an old thread, but apparently this problem is still happening. Iām locked out on IOS as others have described. Iāll be reporting to Apple. Thanks.
EDIT - Apparently between when I first downloaded the app several months ago and now, theyāve decided to clarify on their app page that the iOS app is a paid portal. Your first session is āfreeā but after that you have to subscribe. Period.
