Thanks very much for the course ‚Basic Old English‘. I just started with it and there‘s already some spellings that are different from what I know from university (we read Baker’s Introduction to Old English). We have man (instead of mann) for man and wifman (instead of wifmann) for woman, for example. May I ask where you got your spellings from? As Old English was obviously not standardized, those are not ‚errors‘ of course but I need to stick as closely as possible to what we learn at university and would very much appreciate if you could name your source. Thank you.
I got most of my spellings from the Bosworth-Toller Anglo-Saxon Dictionary and the Old English Translator websites. I suggest you stick to spelling conventions you learn at university, though. I’m not a professor nor a professional linguist. I’m just a student. Thank you for your message.
