When 30 students in a school computer room try to log in simultaneously, some students get the message: “Erm, you’ve tried that one too many times. Please come back later to try again.”.

This a new issue, possibly in the last 3-4 weeks.

I’m guessing the website is protecting itself against DDoS attacks, but this is affecting usability in my context. Any chance this can be fine-tuned to account for schools use, where students all using the same IP address?

It could be where students are using the wrong log-in details? Hard to tell.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi,

We have a limit of 1 login attempt per 10 seconds from a given IP address.

This is in order to avoid people seeing if they can guess users passwords against our systems - or more commonly, testing username and password combinations from data leaks originating from other websites.

We would advise you to ask the students to log in at different times to avoid the restriction.

We’ll raise your comments to the relevant team - although we can’t confirm that this restriction will be changed, hopefully we can make the message and suggested steps clearer for the affected users.
