'Embed' links in Multimedia Levels no longer working [PPS Edit: Failed again!]

Two problems (June 2017):

  1. I have experienced the loading of pages and review sessions not only taking some time recently, but also displaying the information in a weird format for a split second on the left.

  2. Now the worst issue, in the past, embedded links eg to other courses, are no longer showing the course or description. (It is just showing the link).

Can anyone comment on both these issues?

This was a previous post:

I’ve tried adding the “s” to the previous “http” but that does not work either.

Here is one to inspect (the first with the S):

This one is an original without the S

Oddly only the course not the level works in this area!

Hi, embedded links are used to expand videos such as Youtube clips, it doesn’t expand for course links.

Are you still experiencing some issues with the website?

Many thanks for your reply @Joshua but as you may be aware I have been learning and supporting courses for some 4 years and it’s only recently that they are not working. Ie they always used to work.

It was in fact working in May (2017) when I produced this course (which contains links with the S and without the S at the end of http):

So are you saying, now there is no way for the link to show the icon and course details. (Unless I cut and paste obviously). Do you know what changed and why?

Regarding issue “1” (the slow loading and the brief display on the left), yes there is always a slow delay, which is a new issue.

It probably is just be a busy server.

Hi @alanh, as a course creator, I wonder if you have used active links to other courses - like in this level:

https://www.memrise.com/course/454354/capital-cities-location-challenge/18/

Up to a month ago, these used to display the full course details and the start of the description, but now only the link is shown.

I see your links don’t ‘work’ but mine do - it’s just that it’s no longer displaying the course information.

Hi @DW7,

No, I don’t think I ever have.

I’ve only pointed people towards a couple of other courses. I just let them highlight the url and then right click on it to get there.

Many thanks for your reply Alan, I just wanted someone else to say they remember using or seeing them as @joshua is, I think, implying they never did work; yet I know they were still working up to a month or so ago when I created that “10 Plagues” course. So something must have changed.

It’s rather sad as that was a great way to advertise other courses of interest as “follow on” courses, as people could read about it before clicking the link.

I’ve spoke to the web team and was told we’ve never had this in multimedia levels.

There has also been no changes towards multimedia levels.

Many thanks for looking into it @Joshua.

Perhaps I haven’t described it clearly or perhaps it was a nice benefit that you were unaware of.

Unfortunately I can not send you a screen-shot nor do I have one, but I know all my “What next?” levels would display (within a border) the logo and first part of the description when I typed:

^^^^embed:http etc (where ^^^^ is actually four spaces).

I am trying to find someone else who also used to use them to vouch for this.

I think many of the “Easy Academy” courses I supported showed it.

@Joshua,

Well this is amazing!

Perhaps you would like to go to any of my links referred to above (or any other course I am fully supporting) and look at the “What next?” levels.

They ARE now (again) displaying the course emblem and link!!!

Please have a look as you did say they never did.

For Alan’s info - to get the link to work on your course you need to add “embed:” in front of the http://

If you want it in a grey box, you need to precede it by four spaces.

@DW7 ~ Hallelujah and Amen !

I took the links from Level 5 in your 10 Plagues course, and they all opened up to the courses referenced in each link, as well as the final link that went to your Profile page. This is wonderful news !

(BTW, these are all wonderful courses, in case any other Memrisers reading this post want to learn from them).

There can be no doubt that embedded links are truly supported now. Thanks for sticking to your guns on this one. Have a blessed day !

Thank you for the confirmation that I did not have it “cached” and never imagined it @Pdao!

Thanks @DW7. Added!

Hi @Joshua, today I went to do a print screen as proof of what it should look like and none of the links are expanding.

Have you any idea why this has reverted again?

Cc @pdao, @Maxine_Downunder, @alanh, @EasyAcademy

@DW7 ~ I concur with your assessment. The links work, but they don’t expand. I tried several of them from within a couple of your courses. They did expand the other day (as noted above in this thread). Hopefully they can again soon.

I’ve just been looking at a couple of my courses and links seem to be displaying as before.

Not sure if this is coincidence or by design but obviously I am delighted!

Thanks @Joshua.

How about you @Maxine_Downunder , @alanh ?

Here is a partial screen print to show you what I always wanted to see.

Yes. Mine are working again, too.

Good news! My thanks go to whoever on the team came up with the fix.

Thanks for the confirmation. Yes great news as I think it enhances the appearance and attractiveness of follow-on courses.

My thanks go to whoever on the team came up with the fix.

Yes, from all of us as many of us have used that feature.

I hate to say this, @alanh et al, but the links don’t expand today!

Can you explain why @Joshua @lurkmoophy ?

Yes. That was short-lived.

@BeaTrisy - bug or intentional?
