Hi guys - if like me and others, you wrote negative reviews on public sites (e.g. Play Store, Google Maps) in response to the original Decks communication that announced the absence of an app / offline mode for community course, it might be fair now to remove or rewrite those reviews in light of Memrise’s recent reversal of that decision. Just a reminder!
Well they said they were going to allow community courses to continue on the Memrise App until the Decks app is up and running so seems a little unfair to keep the negative reviews up - but your choice of course.
How is it not fair to call out the ’ Jerry Springer’ way of treating customers? I think it is pretty important to know if a company makes sudden weird turns and spins in their regiment; a gigantic storm was caused when this came out which is not okay. It is good to know if you’re in for stormy weather management wise every once in a while or if there are clear skies forever.
I took down my negative reviews (fb and google play store), but will wait to see what happens before re-rating. I have to say I am a little concerned at some of the developments and some of the attitudes shown, but it was an amazing step to invite people to their office, so going to take that as a step in the right direction. Some of the things we said did seem surprising to them and so it may take a while for some of those to sink in - if they do.
It’s entirely up to you, and it depends on your review and its contents, as well as your overall feelings on the matter.
In my case, my negative review was given strictly on the basis of the decision to remove app / offline capability for community courses. That decision has now been reversed on the basis of our feedback, and we will have continuity with the functionality for our community courses. So for me, it did not seem fair to leave up negative reviews that no longer reflected the current situation with regards to Memrise.
If you want to leave your negative review up, that’s totally within your rights. But one pragmatic point to consider is that if Memrise makes an unpopular decision in the future, and we respond by leaving them a lot of negative public press - what incentive do they have to listen to us or change course if they know we’re just going to leave all our bad reviews online anyway?
I think it depends on what you put into the review. Like you said about your points; I fully agree that it is worth taking down after the changes. My own review however is more or less based on management and telling people that in the past Memrise has had a lot of bumbs in the road, specially this last one. A negative review is not necessarily a 1 or if even possible 0 star review with arguments based on feelings of anger specially when said emotional problem has been resolved. It shouldn’t be seen as a negative but instead as points you as a company can work on; yes a lot of reviews are pure emotional rage without constructive criticism, I do not agree on those. In my case it points out that even though I like the app, management and decisions from higher up have in the past created ideas and updates which contradict with customer policies and wishes; and even though not all of them have actually been put through it has created panic among customers which to me seems completely unnecessary and unprofessional. I hope Memrise continues working on this management issue and continues to listen and ask for the opinion of its customers with some more transparency instead of what they have done before.
I’ve just changed my review from 1 back to 4 stars, the fifth being (and having been) suspended until I can see that bugs are being fixed.
It probably is advance praise, but in dubio pro reo, right!
I removed by bad rating despite Memrise being useless with it’s community courses.
I retracted my 1-star review, however I won’t give Memrise any review whatsoever in the near future. Even if they “listened to us”, do not imagine they won’t spin it in their favour in the future, or come up with more brilliant ideas. I encourage everyone to wait a couple of months, or even a year, to see how things turn out and review Memrise accordingly.
Right now, a review would prove to be quite dishonest to those who don’t know what happened, in my opinion. Some might still be full of rage and hate, while others could turn out to be just wishful thinking. So don’t leave any reviews for now.
