I am posting this on behalf of a user who brought this to my attention on the 8K+ Most Common Swedish Words course. I don’t know whether the problem this user is having is an Android bug or whether it is because of the definitions of the words being too long. I have never had the problem described and also have an Android phone.
User @ki01 posted this in the forum for the first part of the course:
“Some of the descriptions are a bit long, especially when I’m using the app on my phone. More and more often I can only see the question and then four little tiny lines and I have to guess what might be behind each of them. Which then means I either have to exit, or get the answer wrong.”
Is it possible that this problem is caused by the definitions on this course being too long?
If so, would it be possible to give course creators and course contributors some guidelines on maximum character length for definitions so this problem can be avoided in future?
I had extended some definitions of words on this course because of user frustration (myself included) over words which had identical definitions. By extending them, I was hoping to successfully disambiguate the words in question and demonstrate in which ways individual words were used differently. I got some positive feedback here in the forums on these longer definitions so I was hopeful that the pesky synonym problem was being solved.
I originally only used the web version of memrise so I wasn’t really aware of long definitions being problematic. A few months ago I bought a better smartphone and began using the memrise app again. I then noticed that the full text of some of the definitions didn’t appear in full during review sessions, but I have never had the experience that @ki01 has had, but perhaps he is farther along in the course than I am.
