Courses *suddenly* requiring either hyphens or even strict typing

Apart from the famous ~ ~ bug, this new “function” grinds my gears really.
You have a word/kanji with several meanings, and you must remeber their order to pass the tapping tests. This makes no sense, since the several meanings doesn’t have any logical order. A week ago these tests were a bit easier, because the ; mark stood at the end of the word helping in most cases.

I would like you to ask you to make these kind of lists unordered (both answers accepted).

Whoever carelessly merged this post into here, please un-merge it:

It does not belong here. It is a separate issue. And I’d like to respond to it but I can’t because you locked the original thread when you merge it.

P.S. Please just don’t ever merge posts! It’s very rarely harmless and pretty much never actually needed.

Yes you can, it is right above your own post on this thread

It is not a bug, it looks like a request for alternates in the solution on the data-base indeed. But @hallgat89 did not source the course concerned.

@cos you can still reply on the original thread I believe, and @Atikker can remove the locks and rename the thread appropriately.

Replying in this thread would’ve just continued the confusion. The other thread, where I wanted to reply, was locked. Fortunately now it’s unlocked. But this crazy topic merging really needs to stop.

alanh: I’m using the web version and having the same problem of strict typing and certain punctuation suddenly being required. At this point I’m ignoring words requiring accents and apostrophes because otherwise it just drives me insane. To answer your question about whether it’s only Memrise, I just added a word to a course I created and yes, it did require the apostrophe to be typed.

the hypen-problem is still there

Some examples from a Japanese class:

あそこに「とまれ」とかいてあります
Here normally no need to insert the 「」

つまですが、たなかさんにいまとうきょうにいるとつたえていただけませんか
Here normally no need for the 、

Same goes for 。and ?. Note if the bug fix could also make acceptable to use Japanese ?where the answer requires a “regular” ? it would be really nice (that was there before already).

Good luck fixing things!

As for me, now in Japanese 2, it works even without ! or ?.
But in Japanese lvl 1 and 2, I still need to copy/paste the 〜.

Is there a timetable for fixing this problem yet? Memrise is now essentially unusable for me.

It seems the team decided to neglect the issue and so to oblige (again) the course creators / contributors to spend hours adding alternatives… there are courses where - if this bug is not solved - creators have to add hundreds of alternatives, in the hope they oversee no permutation.

I cannot understand these changes.

Ah and also, the “,” is now required (Japanese 1).
Hope it will be soon fixed

EDIT 2016 Oct 11
Hey, for me, in Japanese 1 and 2, I don’t need to put the “〜” anymore !
So happy

We’re sorry this issue has been causing you some problems, we’re aware of it and working on resolving the issue.

We’re working on improving our tapping tests and we’ve met some new challenges on the way. Keep an eye out on the new and improved tapping tests in the following weeks.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Pleased to hear it! Some creators use apostrophes instead of accents so it is a huge problem in reviewing.

I think I have the same problem. In all exclamation type phrases, the leading ¡ is required. However, there is one question, I can’t get right at all and have resorted to cut/paste to get past it:
¡Qué … ! = How (+ adjective)!

This is really frustrating. Because of this strict typing crap, some sentences I’m doing now require punctuation, and some don’t because that’s how they were inputed into the course. It’s making a curse I want to do pretty much useless. I’m paying to use this app, I expect bug fixes to come out a helluva lot faster than this

now having to type in a long line of synonyms in the exact order - because the comma behaves differently - this is a joy killer
