Apart from the famous ~ ~ bug, this new “function” grinds my gears really.
You have a word/kanji with several meanings, and you must remeber their order to pass the tapping tests. This makes no sense, since the several meanings doesn’t have any logical order. A week ago these tests were a bit easier, because the ; mark stood at the end of the word helping in most cases.
I would like you to ask you to make these kind of lists unordered (both answers accepted).
Replying in this thread would’ve just continued the confusion. The other thread, where I wanted to reply, was locked. Fortunately now it’s unlocked. But this crazy topic merging really needs to stop.
alanh: I’m using the web version and having the same problem of strict typing and certain punctuation suddenly being required. At this point I’m ignoring words requiring accents and apostrophes because otherwise it just drives me insane. To answer your question about whether it’s only Memrise, I just added a word to a course I created and yes, it did require the apostrophe to be typed.
あそこに「とまれ」とかいてあります
Here normally no need to insert the 「」
つまですが、たなかさんにいまとうきょうにいるとつたえていただけませんか
Here normally no need for the 、
Same goes for 。and ?. Note if the bug fix could also make acceptable to use Japanese ?where the answer requires a “regular” ? it would be really nice (that was there before already).
It seems the team decided to neglect the issue and so to oblige (again) the course creators / contributors to spend hours adding alternatives… there are courses where - if this bug is not solved - creators have to add hundreds of alternatives, in the hope they oversee no permutation.
We’re sorry this issue has been causing you some problems, we’re aware of it and working on resolving the issue.
We’re working on improving our tapping tests and we’ve met some new challenges on the way. Keep an eye out on the new and improved tapping tests in the following weeks.
I think I have the same problem. In all exclamation type phrases, the leading ¡ is required. However, there is one question, I can’t get right at all and have resorted to cut/paste to get past it:
¡Qué … ! = How (+ adjective)!
This is really frustrating. Because of this strict typing crap, some sentences I’m doing now require punctuation, and some don’t because that’s how they were inputed into the course. It’s making a curse I want to do pretty much useless. I’m paying to use this app, I expect bug fixes to come out a helluva lot faster than this
