It got annoying even within a single section of the course. I was asked to translate “friend” and was offered 朋友, 朋, and 友 which all were translated to friend. I sat there for a second before just clicking through that question.
Sounds like it’d be a hassle to change this behavior though. I’ll probably end up just ignoring one of the synonym cases. I imagine it’ll be a pain once I know more words and see more phonetic ambiguity too. I deactivated my tapping questions though; thanks for that advice.
The first two characters “li4” and “mei3” are identically defined and the two both come up as choices sometimes when you’re asked to translate “beautiful*.” However, every time I’ve run into the question with both choices offered (3 times), the correct answer has been “mei3.” I’m not sure if that was by chance or not.
What is the most expedient course sequence for the HSK courses? I see that HSK 2 says it covers everything from HSK1. …so would I be best served just skipping to HSK5 (presuming everything from 1-4 are covered)? And what exactly is the difference between the red and blue courses? From a cursory glance, it appears they are duplicates of each other.
Hi all,
I am currently doing the HSK Level 4 Missing Words blue course. As I did with the HSK 4, I would like to do its correspondent red course later, to force me to come up with a character from the definitions that I learned in the blue course.
However, the HSK Level 4 Missing Words red course is not complete, and has less than half the contents of the blue course (only the 56 first words). Is it possible to include the other words from the blue into the red course?

Please note that the HSK red course existed before I made the blue course. I made the blue course for two reasons. The first was because I wished to follow the blue course study method and secondly because I felt that much more needed to be included. I have no power to change the red course as it belongs to the original creator but when I have time I could make a copy of my blue course and change the testing direction. I’ll contact memrise for help and get back to you.
Bad news I’m afraid. Memrise is either unable or unwilling to copy the course. They just replied that they cannot process this request at this time. I do know many other prople have been able to have their courses duplicated so I wonder why I cannot.
Note - After a bit of time occupied, I’ve just got around to updating HSK 5 BLUE to reflect all vocabulary in HSK 5 RED.
In all, 55 words have been added. Not all are HSK 5 vocabulary, but merely repeats of lower level words.
I may have missed a few single character words that are not of the HSK 5 level. If you see any missing HSK 5 level words in BLUE that are in RED, feel free to let me know.
It may sound silly, but I don’t know how to find all these courses on memrise. I tried searching, but search doesn’t seem to work. I’m interested in the Chinese Breeze series most of all, now how do I find the courses listed in the first post of this topic? embarrassed
I tried looking for the Breeze courses in the “courses” search area but not sure which SoL’s is a mod of. Maybe he’s created others listed as private so they’re not showing up and he can help you out. @student-of-life

Hi SoL, I have a question about your HSK courses on Memrise. Why are there more words to learn than the actual HSK curriculum. For example, HSK-1 has 786 items to learn instead of 150 words. HSK2 has 1287 items instead of 150 also. What is the reason for this? Thanks, Elias
For learning purposes these courses contain all of the HSK characters and all of their components. In other words all of the radicals and other components. If you were to learn to say hello in Chinese this course would teach the following:
亻，小， 尔， 你
女，子， 好
你好
8 different things and this is also doubled as you have to learn the pinyin also, so all in all, 16 different things. It may seem overkill but this way of learning Chinese (imo) is very successful.
