Thanks for the course! There is no audio for waishatsu in level 42 in audio multiple choice questions, so it’s not possible to correctly answer those questions when it occurs in them. In other words, when waishatsu is the correct answer and 3 audio answers should be available to choose from, clicking one of them where the audio for waishatsu should occur does not result in any audio being played, and it is not possible to select that unplayable item as the answer I choose.
伯父さん in level 2 doesn’t appear in level 3
I don’t know if if おじいさん has kanji but in level 32 and 33 it doesn’t have any when it should to qualify in level 33
I can’t see any problems with ワイシャツ (waishatsu) in the database. What course is this for? readings or vocab?
珈琲 for コーヒー is quite common for traditional coffee houses and bags of ‘Japanese’ coffee. For instance, if you walk around Kyoto, where I live, you’ll most likely see a cafe or two using this kanji. It makes it look older and more quaint.
As for 綺麗 it is uncommon but I’ve seen it here and there a few times, so we decided to keep it.

Hi jlptbootcamp, thanks for the course, it’s been a great help. Hope you don’t mind but I’ve got a couple of issues:
On levels 8 and 50 方 is included, but with かた or ほう definitions - when you’re tested on the kana for the kanji, you don’t know which one to use and supplying the other one is marked as incorrect.
Similarly, on level 34 there is 半 and on level 48 is 半分, but both are defined as “half”, so if you are asked for the kanji for the English definition then you don’t know which one to type.

I’ve noticed some similar issues to the ones above; for 私 on the N5 Readings course you don’t know whether it’s わたし or わたくし, as both are in the course. Also for the N4 Readings course the same problem occurs but for the word 止める instead, as it could be やめる or とめる.

I was wondering if you could fix something on your course… it’s related to the 3 of the 5 colours that have two versions (excluding light brown and green) in this course. Black, Yellow and Blue.
For example you’ve written to following:
赤 (the colour) red and 赤い red
白 (the colour) white and 白い white
But for the other 3 you’ve written the following:
黒 black (lvl 8-9) and 黒い black
黄色 yellow (lvl 12-13) and 黄色い yellow
青 blue (lvl 48-49) and 青い blue
Would you by chance be able to update 黒、黄色、青 with (the colour) black, (the colour) yellow, (the colour) blue respectively?
When ever those three pop up in a review and in certain situations I have a 50/50 chance of writing the correct version. I have no way to tell if it’s the noun version or the i-adjective version.
Besides that, I really enjoy this course. Keep up the good work!

黒 is tagged n (for noun)
黒い is tagged adj-i (or something similar, I can’t quite remember) for i-adjective.

Quick question. I am taking the readings course for N5. The course seems to already include hiragana and kanji when teaching me new words. So is it advisable to “Ignore” every other level since they are repeats of the last?
Also: where can I donate to your website. You’ve helped me get very far in studying.

I’m hoping I just tripped over a setting and I can’t find a way to turn it back on but today when I went to review the courses started marking me wrong when I had the correct answer but had just mistaken whether or not it was supposed to be in kanji or hirakana. It used to say I made a mistake and gave you another chance. How can I fix this? It’s really frustrating to suddenly be forced to review things that were supposed to be set for months at a time.
Hi, @maatkare. This is a site-wide issue that popped up in the last couple of days, rather than something specific to these courses. There’s been a lot of discussion about it and other issues in this thread.
Long story short though, it’s happening to a lot of other users too, on all courses, it seems. Hopefully it can get sorted out soon.
Oh wow that really broke a lot of things huh. I guess I can use the app in the meantime if I’m every getting too frustrated at least. Especially on my review courses. Thanks for the help

At first I thought it was an issue with this course, but then I saw it happening to all other courses too. It’s fine as long as I make sure I use the kanji or kana as required.
There’s a memo about the translation of では (“with that”) being wrong, and Jisho seems to agree (“then; well; so; well then”), but I guess the forum is a better place to report it
I think the definition was changed to disambiguate では from other words with similar meanings like じゃあ and ええと.
Basically, you would use this word to change the subject, and not as a hesitation word or to mark a sequence. For first time learners, if you saw the primary definition as ‘then’ you might think it is for sequencing (first…, then…, next…, etc…) And if you saw it as ‘well’ you might think it is a hesitation word like ええと. So that is why it has the def it does.
Generally speaking, the master Japanese Memrise dictionary is based on the wwwjdic / jisho dictionary (at least the most common 20,000 words), so if something is different from that it’s because of disambiguation or a confusing definition from that dictionary.

It makes sense now
Color prompts are inconsistent. Level 12/21 prompt “yellow” but the answers are きいろ and きいろい respectively. The same happens with black in level 8/32 and blue in 48/51, but there could be more. The course seems to try an differentiate with red in level 1 by having the propt “(the color) red” for あか and level 18 “red” for あかい. If this was consistent then all would be fine and review not frustrating (when one is counted wrong on a 50/50 coin toss answer, but is indeed still correct…).
Please have this fixed in this course and check if it’s needed in any other of the levels.
It says adj. and noun on those words.
Could you make an alternate version of ‘JLPT N5 Grammar’ that uses kana instead of kanji?
Btw. in ‘JLPT N5 Vocab’ the audio for one(thing) 24, garden 28, body 28, shoes 34 and stamp 52 somehow sound wrong to me. Also grandmother 54 is missing audio entirely.
