[Course Forum] Japanese 1-7 by Memrise

Aah I see what you mean! Usually it’s pretty clear, but I guess it would be nice if the words were presented as 映画 【えい・が】. It may be convenient for when you learn other words that contain the same kanji. I don’t know, it never really bothered me. :stuck_out_tongue:

With some readings I think it is also unspecified which sound belongs to which kanji, like with 明日 【あした】.

は is pronounced as ha if it is NOT a topic particle or if it is the end of a greeting phrase such as こんにちは (konnichiwa)

Watch this, it will clear everything up for you.

on the memrise courses… let us know when to write anata and when not to write anata… also what drives me nuts also is when i have to select answers and i have to chose the exact order…now i have to memorise the order of the answers as well… this lack of flexibility must be fixed!

it seems that is the result of changing the function of the comma, previously it was a separator between alternative answers,

Hi! I don’t know exactly wich course you´re talking about, but i´ve noticed that usually you don´t have to write “anata” in questions since it´s obvious you´re referring to a “you”. Maybe this will help…

2 mostly but also 3 … i use pc not phone app… some phrases have it some don’t and it would be nice to let us know where to write because it is really stupid to have to remember that … i saw courses made by users and they let you know,…

@MarikoMiz @GabrieleCramer-Knebe
Gabriele is correct on how to locate the new Japanese courses.

I found this thread a week after starting the old memrise Japanese 1 course because the new course was not offered to me in the Android app. Even after logging off the app and back on as suggested, the new course does not appear. If I use the memrise website to locate courses, I do not see the new course if I say I speak American English. I have to select that I speak UK English to see the new course.

I guess I should be happy I’m only a week in to the old course before discovering there’s a newer version but I wish the new versions showed under American English.

Hi,

In Japanese level 1 you use the word “shi” for “four”, However using “yon” is more common

Sometimes in the listening module you will hear a symbol like ‘chi’ for example and there will be two options to answer. One is ‘chi’ (katakana) and one ‘chi’ (hiragana). Only one is right, but clearly they have the same pronounciation.

Hello!

Both issues have been fixed. If you have downloaded the courses, please log out, log back in and download the course again. Thanks!

hello, there are some errors in Japanese 2 (no script) that i have noticed, mainly a difference between what is being said by the voice and what is on the screen.

Level 12 - let’s go to the market (shijo ni iki masho u) appears on the screen but the voice says ichiba, not shijo (by my understanding they both mean market, but it is a little confusing).
level 22 - is spicy (tsurai desu) the voice says karai desu (again, both mean spicy)
level 21 - being open (hirai te imasu) is on the screen but the voice says ai te imasu which is correct, hirai means 'come flying’
level 25 - day (nichi) the voice only says ‘hi’ (I’m not sure what needs to be fixed here because i’m currently on this level)
I hope this was helpful enough, i love the app:slight_smile:
ありがとうございます !

I personnaly used the memrise application for android, learning Japanese from the french version of the application.

It comes a moment where you learn to say “Suzuki-san is a genius”. However, when you’re reviewing the lessons and have to guess, the sentence to guess is “You are a genius” whereas the solution is “Suzuki-san is a genius”.

From what I’ve seen on the comment section of the application, it looks like this is a recurring issue, whenever there is a sentence starting with “you…” to translate, chances are that the correct answer will start with some last name.

Given the fact that it is difficult for a non japanese to learn then kanjis, it would be nice if this could be fixed so that the learning pocess would not be corrupted by this issue.

this being the thread for those courses (look under “japanese” in the fora, and you find it)

Hello

Thanks for reporting this. As Hydroptere mentioned, there’s a specific thread in these forums to post these types of things, so if you wouldn’t mind, please repost there, or a mod may swing by and merge your post into that topic

Again, I’ve seen this thread and this NOT the same issue AT ALL.

In one case the thread talks about “ha” sounding “wa” which is not a bug but more a grammatical misunderstanding from the person who posted it.

In my case, I’m talking about “Suzuki-san” translated to “You”.

These are very different issues, I don’t understand how they can be
merged… Pease let know if you don’t understand the differences I’m pointing out because I don’t wont to see my question merged with a completely different issue.

You have a point in being misunderstood. While that thread did start by complaining about the “ha or wa” thing, it has now become the official thread for reporting issues on the official Japanese courses. So that is the perfect place to post your question, since there’s a higher likelihood on getting an answer from the staff.

Allright, I understand now, what you mean is that this thread is only one
dedicated to getting translations fixed on the app.
Well, I don’t know why but I feel like this means it’ll 'ever be noticed…

Thanks anyway
