[Course Forum] Italian Level from 0 - A1 - A2, FULL AUDIO by ChiewPang

Silly question I know but are you sure you used the grave and not the acute accent by any chance?

I’m definitely using the grave accent ` so that’s not it, but thanks anyway for the educated guess.

I guess it’ll go down as one of Memrise’s mysteries…

Hi Chiew,

Can you please explain to me why:

In Level 38: “It’s seven forty-five” translates as "sono le sette e tre quarti"
In Level 39: “It’s fifteen forty-five” translates as “sono le quindici e quarantacinque”

Shouldn’t “quarantacinque” and “tre quarti” be interchangeable or is there some special rule for using one instead of the other?

Grazie,
Aleida

@sonoaleida
Aleida,

I’d thought long and hard when I did these. Yes, they’re interchangeable but I decided to leave it this way so that students will learn how to use both forms; otherwise, they will probably always choose whichever is the easiest for them.

It is important to know both forms as in the Continent, they tend to use the 24-hr clock more often, even in speech.

good point about the importance of knowing both forms…thanks for the clarification

Hi Chiew,

First I’d like to say how much I’m enjoying Level 36 (Cosa c’è nella borsa) with its colorful images to click on to identify the vocabulary terms… I’m thoroughly enjoying the rich visual aspect of this level but would like to point out one possible typo in “La busta della spessa”. Shouldn’t it be “La busta della spesa” with only one “s” in “spesa”? or is it okay to spell “spessa” with a double s as an alternative spelling?

Grazie,

Aleida

Aleida, as usual, you’re right. Spessa is thick and thick am I,
I’m glad you’re enjoying the level! The other images levels are 10, 76 & 77. The problem with having images is that Memrise, to my annoyance, prohibits you from doing speed reviews. The simple thing to do would be to ignore images, but it’d seem simple things are never simple with Memrise. :confounded:

I personally almost never do speed reviews but I know people who do. The only way around it at the moment is to go directly to an individual level and do it from there. If it has no images, you’ll be allowed to speed away!

Grazie di nuovo!

Chiew

Chiew, I love to speed away…especially in courses where I have lots of vocabulary to review.

Today I found two additional small errors in Level 36:

(la) patente de guida should be (la) patente di guida
(il) spazzolino da denti should be (lo) spazzolino da denti.

Speedily yours,

Aleida

Friggin’ Spanish getting in the way again…:scream:
The second error, however, had already been corrected, so you couldn’t have the right version. I’m still waiting for Memrise to introduce a force-sync feature but they prefer to be toying with bells and whistles and adding useless stuff like Mission and whatnot…
However, your pointing it out made me go through the level again and I found I had also use “il” with specchietto. So, that was changed. The plural, of course, now, is gli specchietto.
Molto grazie, Aleida!

Yep…Spanish gets in my way too, as does Portughese but not as often.

By the way, when “specchietto” came up for review today not only does it still show “il” for the article, but the audio sound file has "il as well. I don’t know what, if anything, you can do about a faulty audio file, but I thought I’d mention it to you anyway.

Ciao,

Aleida

Now, that’s worrying… what had I changed then? Now, it should be ok. Audio isn’t automatic. Each audio file is edited and uploaded separately.

Molto grazie, Aleida!

Hi Chiew,

Both the audio and the image files are working correctly now for “specchietto”…thanks for the quick fix. I have one more for you to fix up in Level 36…dentifricio has the “r” in the wrong place.

Thanks,

Aleida

:cry::sob:Mi dispiace molto! :sob:
I’ve made more mistakes in that one level than the whole course! I’m feeling the heat…

Do keep your eyes peeled - I’m sure there’ll be more!

Grazie! :hugs:

Hi Chiew!
There are few errors in level 36 (Beginners’ Italian 0-A1-A2, FULL AUDIO

(il) specchietto - (lo) specchietto
(il) spazzolino da denti - (lo) spazzolino da denti
And must be (il dentifricio)

Correct please these errors.

Good bye Chiew. And sorry for my English.

@Vitalij66, thanks for reporting the errors but these have been fixed some time ago. You’d need to log out and back in again because Memrise insist in NOT providing a force-sync feature and modifications on existing entries are not updated. I presume you’re using the app, because the web version should be all right. From time to time, I make other changes, such as the audio, and none of these changes will be detected. I always advise people to do this logging out and in process every so often. The only snag is that if you’ve downloaded courses, you’d need to do it again. As we all know Memrise prefer to play around with bells and whistles rather than improve weaknesses. :rage:

Grazie!

Tytto bene! Grazie molto!

Hi Chiew,

First of all, i want to wish you a belated Happy New Year…and speaking of the new year, I’ve found the first typo of 2017 in Level 59…“a te piace viaggare” should be “a te piace viaggiare”…can you please fix it?

Thanks,

Aleida

No sooner said than done! Thanks for the keen eye. :sunglasses: And a Happy New Year to you too!

Hi Chiew,

Today I started Level 84 and got tripped up on the first vocabulary word…dining room. Shouldn’t it be “sala da pranzo” instead of “sala de pranzo” as shown? …:flushed:

Ciao,

Aleida
