Some other things that would help:

(you/he/she) lives – happens twice for “woont” and “leeft” with no indication which is which, though “leven” and “wonen” as infinitives are named differently “live” vs “reside” IIRC. So the same thing has to be done with woont and leeft.

alone – alleen and met rust. Second should probably be “(left/leave) alone” or even changed to “met rust laten” with Englinsh being “leave alone”.
“woont” and “leeft” have been added to the “similar words” columns, so it should be clear on the next review which of these you need to use.
“met rust laten” is indeed “to leave alone” or “to leave in peace”.
“alleen” usually means “only, just” or “alone, lonely”.
The entry in the course is only the words “met rust”, though, not “met rust laten”.
Are the words “met rust” only ever used in the expression “met rust laten”? Or do they crop up in other combinations?

I’ve chalked it up to being a volunteer-created course so I wasn’t going to complain or anything, but seeing you raise this issue here, I agree that it’d be great if someone could go through the course(s) and edit when need be! I also noticed a few small typos which can also be annoying. None of these issues make me want to stop the course, but I do applaud your willingness to edit them for the rest of us! I have c+p’ed your comment here so we don’t get mixed up.
Anyway, I am actually a course contributor for this course (I call it Dutch 1K for short) and have already removed and replaced many of the buzzy audio items. I also checked whether the words were spoken by a speaker of Dutch or Flemish and replaced any Belgian ones with Dutch where possible.
By now, many of the buzzy audio files should have been replaced so I am sorry if you are still getting them. Do you use the web version of memrise or the app? And, if you use the app, is your version of the app up to date?
It would be great if you could make a note of the words that are too loud or too quiet and post them here, along with any typos you see. I have completed the course and am now reviewing, so I work on the course at least once a day at the moment. Amending a couple of typos or replacing bad audio wouldn’t be a problem at all.

Hi Amanda! So I have generally noticed the issues more on mobile than on the web, but I also downloaded the whole course on mobile when I started it; have you replaced files in the past month or so? If so, then I won’t be getting those on mobile, I presume. I will definitely keep track of the handful of errors or less-than-ideal sound as I run into them, thanks!
Indeed I have! I just checked my files on my Chromebook (I haven’t deleted the audio files on this machine yet) and saw that I first started uploading new audio files on the 24th of February this year.
If you want to do the course without the buzzy audio files then you will need to maybe use the online version of the course. I found the buzzy audio files really really annoying when I first started this course and it was actually even the reason I asked to become a course contributor!
As I have gone along, I have ironed out a few inconsistencies and - with the help of the Van Dale online dictionary, amongst others - even tentatively improved definitions in a few places. The app tends to lag a little behind the web version - presumably the new changes only come through when the app is updated, which seems to happen about once a week or so - so if you want the newest version, you need to use the web version.
As I review the course, I often find tiny things that need improving, so the course is somewhat “in flux” right now. Obviously, it is up to you whether you download the course again, but if you want to have the version with the least inconsistencies and the best audio, then you will be best off using the memrise app online.
I hope you will soon be able to enjoy the new improved version on your phone, too!

As you can see above, there IS an audio file attached to the word “de telefoon”, so maybe it is just your outdated downloaded version that doesn’t have the recording?
I’m sorry, I should have specified that this was on the web version; I thought it was clear from the screenshot, but I guess that could have been the iPad version. I’ll be more specific next time!
In any case, it was definitely on the web, and it definitely did not play, all the times that the word was given to me. However I didn’t think of opening up my browser console until it was too late and I wasn’t served the word again, oops. When it comes up in Review at some point, I’ll make sure to check if there’s an error, if I still don’t get it. It might have just been a fluke CDN problem, if you do indeed see the file in the database. Thanks!
i have no explanation for this, other than the fact that memrise seems to have trouble with iOS …
Could that possibly be an explanation? I use a Chromebook when I access the web version of memrise and I can hear the audio file no problem. But it might be a relatively recent addition to the database, perhaps there hasn’t been an iOS update lately for memrise? (I don’t have much clue about tech things, please excuse me if I am talking rubbish )
Do you have a PC or laptop that runs on something other than iOS that you could test this theory on?
I will have to find out in which level the word appears and get back to you so you can just review that level and see if the microphone icon appears when the word appears.
Thanks for troubleshooting with me! Once you have the level, I’ll certainly go try to listen to it. Don’t worry too much about it, though! The issue has no connection with anything iOS-related (I do tech support for websites, so I know how these things work). I stand by my previous guess: a temporary issue with the CDN for the file. I’ll keep my browser console open today while I review as it’s sure to come up, and I’ll let you know if it happens again or not.
