[Course Forum] Dutch 1-7 by Memrise

Hi!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll have a look right away and make some changes!

Best,

Merlijn

Hi

I hope this is the right spot for pointing out the mistakes in the course.

Basically, this is what I saw today: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n9506h68rxhe27w/Screenshot%202016-09-28%2015.19.22.png?dl=0

2 identical options — only one is accepted, but both are incorrect. “Recht” should be “right”, right?

Oh hey that was what I’d reported earlier, it was supposed to have been fixed but it looks like Merlijn will have to look deeper. I haven’t had to deal with that one again (only typing the word, no multiple choice) since reporting, so I couldn’t say whether it’d been cleared up or not.

I think you could encounter it again while reviewing?

By the way, there is another problem with articles:

een citroen =?= the lemon
de familie =?= a family

I’m not sure if I remember correctly the second one though

Yes, it potentially could, but most often when reviewing is typing the words. Only infrequently does it give the multiple choice then.

I’m confused about your other issue. De familie is the family, correctly listed as such, and een citroen is correctly listed as saying a lemon… where is the problem?

No, that is actually not true

Proofpic 2:

(sorry, couldn’t put them in one post due to some restriction)

That’s…bizarre, because that’s not what my screen shows. 0.o

Let’s compare the URLs. You can see mine in the screenshots. Probably there are different versions of the courses?

I don’t think that’s what the URL numbers mean, because mine are different but consecutive, just like yours are. The course should be identical for all.

Actually there may be 2 courses with the same name. Yesterday at one point there was 2 “Spanish 6” on my dashboard. Almost identical, one half learnt and other not. Maybe it’s a glitch?

That does sound like a glitch that you experienced, Atikker.

Please refer to this page containing exclusively uniquely named courses

The number on the left (after course but before the course name) will be different between the US English and the British English editions of the course.

They are separate courses and can only be distinguished easily by looking at the URL.

So for Dutch 1 we have the following…

UK: http://www.memrise.com/course/1121354/dutch-1/

US: http://www.memrise.com/course/1179858/dutch-1/

Etc etc

Can we get “Dutch 6 - Ours and Theirs” fixed? Some of the sentences with die/dat/dit/ are messed up. Please have a check on that. Thanks!

I wasn’t aware US was even an option.

Hi Andrii_Magalich42,

This is indeed the place to be for questions related to the Dutch courses.

I’ve had a look at the “straight” issue, and as EclecticMonkey mentioned as well, I fixed the problem before, when there were still two different Dutch items that had “straight” as a translation. Back then, I changed one of those (changed the English into “direct, straight”), and now I’m looking again I can’t find another “straight” anywhere in the course, so this might be a tech problem. I’ll have someone else look into it as well!

Thanks for letting us know!

Best,

Merlijn

Hi Andrii_Magalich42

Many thanks! I’ve fixed the lemon and the family items.

The reason why you’re course is slightly different from the one EclecticMonkey is learning, is that we have now two (slightly different) courses for the US and UK market. You will automatically be directed to one of those courses depending on the language settings on your device, and won’t be able to see the other one then.

Best,

Merlijn

Hi ditafarid,

I’ve had a quick look at the level you mentioned, but don’t see what the exact issue is yet. Could you let me know what you believe is wrong there? Also, when doing so, do you know whether you’re learning the Dutch courses for the UK or US market? (This depends on the language settings on your phone, if those are UK English, you’ll automatically be directed to the Dutch course for the UK market).

Best,

Merlijn

A few weeks ago they split some of the categories and created more official courses.

If you go to the web and select I Speak, now you can select US English.

The official courses look identical, but they are copies. It would help if they mentioned something in the description or had some sort of indicator in them. But then there is a general lack of useful metadata in Memrise.

One big difference though: the US English also has Mexican Spanish in addition to the original Spanish, which I don’t think is available to British English (last time I checked).
