[Course Forum] Beginners Swiss German by Baas

Hi, I have been doing 5-6 of Baas’s Swiss German courses, they really are excellent. Thank you Baas.

I have a clarification question on Level 4 of his Beginners Swiss German (Schwiizertüütsch) - The phrase “en schwarze Hund und s wiises Büsi” is translated as “a black dog and a white cat”, but I am confused, isn’t the ‘s’ before ‘wiises’ translating as ‘the’ (neuter), rather than ‘a’.

Thanks

Martin

@mhuegi
IMO (nativ NW-Switzerland)

“en schwarze Hund und s wiises Büsi” should be
A) “en schwarze Hund und s wisse Büsi” or
B) “en schwarze Hund und e wisses Büsi”

“en schwarze Hund und e wisses Büsi” = “a black dog and a white cat”
“en schwarze Hund und s wisse Büsi” = “a black dog and the white cat”

Thanks, I am guessing he will now see this thread then? @Baas

Thanks for the clarification. Then yes, I think that they don’t match up in the lesson. @Baas

i’ve sent him a PM as well, maybe that helps

Hey guys,

I’ve fixed the mistake: “en schwarze Hund und e wiises Büsi”

BTW, I prefer to use the spelling “wiises”, but “wisses” is also good.

Thanks for your message!

for me,
“e wiises Büsi” means “a wise cat”
“e wisses Büsi” means " a white cat"

Oh, I see . Anyway, I’ve added both alternatives to the course. Thanks for your suggestion.

@Baas Gruezi! You are awesome! Thank you so much for all the hard work you have done! I noticed on Swiss German glossary level 17 there is a mix-up with “di neechschte Wuche” = last week
Also now on level 1 of Swiss German 2… there are two correct answers to what “em” means so there’s a 50/50 chance of not picking the one it is looking for. Also, “Ich chumm us em Kanton Schafuuse.” was the first fill-in-the-sentence and “Schafuuse” (the last word) was marked incorrect, but it was correct. I used all the words that were there, in the correct order.

Thanks again!

@Baas, @Patrick_Parker25

– 1. –
“di neechschte Wuche” = NOT last week
“di neechschte Wuche” = the next weeks !!! next and pl.
“di neechscht Wuche” = the next week !!! next and sg.

– 2. –
Suggestion:
em Maa = the man (dative masculine singular)
em Huus = the house (dative neuter singular

– 3. –
“Ich chumm us em Kanton Schafuuse.”
I had no problems with this sentence/fill-in-the-sentence.

Hey Baas, I really like your Swiss German course. I moved to Switzerland a few months ago and I also started creating a new course myself to help me with my Swiss German. I got a couple speakers also and started recording some stuff. But maybe I could just give up my course and help you add recordings to yours? Best.

Is this the course you are doing?

Hi, how are you?
Audio would be a real asset . If you’re really interested, I’ll add you as a contributor to the course, so you can work in your own pace.

really interested. thank you.

Before we bring this forward I need to ask my speakers. One of them might feel uncomfortable pronouncing Züridütsch. I’ll get back to you.
