[Course Forum] Advanced Food and Restaurant Menu course by dandmcd

qìshuǐ 汽水 is translated as soda, cola, colas etc. I did not realise until now why I never remember this…

but the original meaning is still mineral water, aerated water, soft drink

i don’t remember the contributor’s name - somebody does take care of the course - anyhow the creator @dandmcd went absent log time ago…

hello,
the original meaning of qìshuǐ 汽水 might be mineral water, but now in China it generally means “soda, cola etc.”. “mineral water” is “kuàng quán shuǐ 矿泉水“

that is well so, but i did not ask for the translation soda to be replaced with “mineral water”, but for some alternatives to be added…

Also, “soda” is not such an international term as some believe…my own Chinese colleague explained it with “soft drink, soda water” (he’s from Beijing). The course gives some 20 alternatives anyhow.

if you look in the course, you will see many other translations…also here http://dict.youdao.com/search?le=eng&q=汽水+&tab=&keyfrom=dict2.top

@DrewSSP is listed as a contributor for that course. @DrewSSP Could you kindly have a look at this?
Thanks :hamster:
Here’s the link to the course:

Oh hi there, guys. Yup, I’m a contributor for this course and am apparently the most active one too. I’ve been laying low on this course because I was worried I’d step on somebody else’s toes. Apparently that’s not really a risk.

@Hydroptere I’ve implimented the changes that you’ve suggested. Each of the translations I found on the website were added. Including “gazoz”, whatever that is…

I’ve also deleted answers related to cola or coke, because that’s overly specific. If you want to refer to carbonated beverages, 汽水 should be used. If you want to refer to cola specifically, 可乐 should be used.

Finally, Thanks to @Hydroptere for creating this forum. I will throw a link into the course description to this thread. Please do not hesitate to continue to use this to report innaccuracies. I find that there are many minor issues in this course that I would like to hunt down and fix.
