Hey Neal, Μεταθέτω and Μετακινώ have been the bane of my existence for the past couple months until I decided to track them down myself. In the course, they both come up as “to move”, and they aren’t alt-crossed.
In the Level 1 and Level 2 exist the same word η κατοικία.
It is the last word in both levels.
- Level 25 γενειάδα and Level 136 μούσι need cross-alting or disambiguating
- Level 56 νέα and Level 142 ειδήσεις need cross-alting or disambiguating

Hey, I posted in another topic and didn’t get a response. Since I see this one is active, I hope you don’t mind my intrusion.
It looks like this course is B2+, and I’m wondering what’s the best course before this one, for a lowly no-knowledge A1’er.
Of course not! Well, the first thing I’d say is that this isn’t really a course per se. When you’re learning a language, in addition to speaking and aural comprehension skills, I think there are two very distinct bits. The first is vocabulary (and spelling), which is what Memrise is absolutely great for, and the second is grammar and knowing how to put all the words together, which Memrise is really no good at all for.
What I’d personally recommend is to do the Duolingo Greek course in addition to starting to work your way through this course. Duo is great for getting to understand the mechanics of the language, and it’s got a very active and helpful community. When it comes to this course, sure, it does contain a lot of very obscure words, but after a while, you’ll start to get a feel for how words are spelled and constructed and where to put the tonoses etc, even if you never end up using the actual word itself.
If you just want a really basic overview of Greek, then Somada’s courses here on Memrise are good. A word of caution though: they’re ‘dead’ courses in that the creator no longer maintains them, and they also contain quite a few mistakes.

Thanks. I like to learn around 5k words while watching shows, then immerse myself in novels to learn the grammar intuitively and store more vocabulary. I’m mainly concerned that there doesn’t seem to be a 5k most common words in modern greek course, which is why I was pondering if I had overlooked something. I do see the duolingo course here, so I may start with that one (I’m not a big fan of the actual duolingo).
Ah, right. Clozemaster I found not too bad for that sort of thing, although their Greek course is also riddled with mistakes.
This course and my own one (https://www.memrise.com/course/1179799/spdls-miscellany-orphans/) are the only two Greek courses that I really rate highly here on Memrise - most of the others contain errors and/or aren’t updated, or don’t have audio, or don’t properly disambiguate, or whatever. I think I may have come across a few ‘2,000 most common words’ Greek courses before, but wasn’t very impressed with them.
There are plenty of common words in this course. Neal, who maintains it, isn’t a big believer in frequency lists - I’m kind of inclined to agree with him - but there are a lot of high-usage terms in here, for sure.

I think πνευμονολόγος would be the noun for a practitioner of the discipline. That’s the pattern other similar words follow, anyway
