[Course Forum] 50 Most Beautiful Flowers In The World by bester.dries

Please use this thread to post comments about this great flower course by @bester.dries :

This course is looked after by @albo2albo and @DW7 now.

Hi @bester.dries,

I see you have nearly 3 Million points and this is a recent course, so I guess you are still active.

I really like your course and I’d like to offer some suggestions.

I have noticed that the entry for Hydrangea is either wrongly named or the photo is incorrect as the photo is actually an Ivy Geranium also known as a Pelargonium

A quick search shows that the 4th anniversary flower is either a Geranium, a Hydrangea or it could be a Alstroemeria, but I think the description matches a Hydrangea in which case the flower is wrong and it should be:

I also see that the category is ā€œCourses > Languages > Europeanā€ > English but I would have expected it to be ā€œThe Natural World > Plants, Trees & Fruitsā€ where I have placed this thread.

Hi @lien as @bester.dries has not found this forum, but is probably active, could you contact him please? (Otherwise I am happy to become a Contributor to this great course.)

I believe that the entry called Cypress is actually a Cypress Vine (Ipomoea quamoclit). It is not the conifer called Cypress.

However Cupressaceae (in the description) is correctly a Cypress conifer.

Hi @DW7,

The creator is no longer active on Memrise, but the course is being maintained by @albo2albo.
He/she should be able to help with your queries. If not, let me know.

Best wishes,

Lien

Many thanks @lien for your reply - I know @albo2albo and I noticed he has been active on the course so I have already sent him an invite to this thread  .

Hello to you both, @Lien nad @DW7
I thought it far easier to bow to your superior knowledge, DW7, and have added you as a contributor to the course - I’d be grateful if you would also kindly overlook my inherent laziness

Hi @albo2albo - many thanks for adding me as a Contributor.

If you have no objections, I’d like to do some ā€˜housekeeping’ and additions to the course as I have in the past.

@DW7 - ops sorry about that - all fixed now. Yes, please go ahead and make any improvements you think would improve the course - that would be fantastic.

Many thanks @albo2albo - I have now split the course into three smaller levels (and the first three will be fully planted).

I have added two ā€œWhat next?ā€ levels and reversed levels.

What do you think about this:

I believe that the entry called Cypress is actually a Cypress Vine (Ipomoea quamoclit). It is not the conifer called Cypress.
However Cupressaceae (in the description) is correctly a Cypress conifer.

Researching, I think people are lazy and have dropped the ā€œvineā€ bit.

However the creator may have researched Cypress for the first part of the text. So I will remove the Conifer bit as the rest (the meaning) is correct.

For completeness (so it’s not lost) this is the original Description:

Cypress belongs to the family of Cupressaceae and is mainly associated with death, melancholy and mourning. They also symbolize love and longing for a person and indicate dignity and respect for the departed. These flowers are best for funerals.

I’ve added a new image for Hydrangea and an extra image for Lilac that is more recognisable.

That’s all I’ve spotted but we might get some comments here.

All the course photos mus be large files as they take ages to load but it would be a lot of work to reformat them all!

PS Also added a few missing singulars and plurals as hidden alternatives.

Wow, you’re really getting the course into tip-top shape, as you do with all your courses.
Many thanks for stepping in.

Hi @DW7 sorry, but I’ve stepped away from Memrise now and focus all my learning on Anki. I grew tired of their frequent ā€˜improvements’ which seemed, in my mind, to focus on cosmetics and not actual improvements.
I wish you well and thank you for your friendship and assistance whilst I was on memrise.
