I am loving this course, I am almost 3000 words in! It is great to see that there is now some active contribution to fix up minor mistakes here and there.
I’m glad we’ve got a working forum here. I guess Memrise had good forums in the past, but they were hard to find when I started. And now we’ve moved to Decks.
Are y’all using Decks full-time now? I’m still doing Community Courses through the main site, as they haven’t kicked me off yet.
I’m very interested in seeing how this course develops. It has the potential to be the very best German vocabulary SRS course.
I see that the title of the course is now All German Words, but what word count do you realistically plan to reach? 10,000? 15,000? Or a different figure?
I’m going to guess, but there will be around 50k entries in the course.
The process is as follow:
- I’ll be adding all words starting with the letter A’, without audio.
- I’ll then remove all words starting with the letter A’ from 4000 to 5000 slots and transfer them to A’.
- I’ll then add audio and refine translations of all A’ words.
- Repeat process with letter B and onwards.
Mind me, but is there any means to jumble the words once they have been entered in an alphabetical order? IMHO the second worst thing that can happen to a course (erroneous content being #1) is for users to be presented with an alphabetically ordered list of words. Also, the course’s title states “sorted by frequency”. Just my .02!
That could be easily fixed by Memrise by simply making a feature that scrambles a set of words to learn. But when you are transcribing an entire dictionary, I don’t have any other easy way to add the words. Sorry. You could try learning 5 at a time and switch letters.
No worries, I know the problem! I’m actually German and while I’m sure I would find many new words in a course as extensive as this one, I won’t take the course myself as there’ll be just too many that I already know.
I’m really only following this thread in case I can add something or help out (in terms of vocabulary). In this case I was just thinking out loud as I’ve seen other courses that present words alphabetically. An option to scramble words would be a nice feature request, mind me!
typo on level 183, I think should be Hausmeister (ei) not Hausmiester (ie).
Hi @Geil, first off I would like to say thank you for making some good changes on this course.
Quick question, I was wondering why the course does not allow us to use the turbo option?
I noticed the course has had a couple of cover changes, perhaps a more sleek image would be nicer. I created this one, if you and others users would like you are free to use it.
Kind regards.
Sorry, I have been mending a broken left arm for a while. That looks great, I’ll use it. Might be a bit longer before I can finish the course, it was a serious break.
Oh no that would have been very painful, I hope you are on your way to a good recovery?
I am glad you like it. That’s ok I am happy to see the course evolve.
Geil, the definition of “every” is currently “jeder”, but the definition should be restricted to masculine nouns, or changed to its more general adjectival form of “jede”.
