I have just finished German level 1. I have just started German level 2 and I wanted to know if in level 2 there will be ways to review what I have learnt in level 1?
Do the levels have some correlation or should I be practising both levels now?
I am using the memrise created courses.
Any help or ideas would be great! Idealy I would like to just practise on the one level.
What have other people done to stay fresh with their previously learnt levels? I won’t be travelling until 7 months from now so I don’t want to forget it all!
Thanks
You better start from zero: http://memrise-users.wikia.com/wiki/Home
Finish ALL levels.
Once the words are planted per level, you will have to review the learned words (mixed for all started/finished levels) for the whole course automatically according to a defined spaced repetition (SR) interval.
When you click on the (blue) review button (when there are words in the backlog), Memrise usually mixes the review words from ALL levels.
To my understanding, the levels have no relation but are just a way of internal grouping a bunch of words within a course.
This is the reason that there is NO NEED to review a specific level.
If you really have the feeling, you can still review the words from level 1, once you finished it, AFAIK…but I never do it in this way.
Some words might not popup in a MANUAL level review, if not all words are fully planted (6 steps)…or that may have been related to the level.
I can not remember anymore exactly what issue I encountered myself.
I would have to grap my old thread on DuoLingo discussion and/or Memrise forum when I asked for help about this issue when I run into it with “non-finished levels/words”…
I’m in the same position: I finished German 1 a few days ago, and just started German 2. Today I had 25 words to review in German 1 and 5 in German 2.
You can ignore the previous course, but the reviews are timed to help you retain what you learnt before and I would recommend keeping up with them. The frequency goes down over time: one of the courses I completed a few weeks ago now rarely comes up with reviews, as I have repeated the words correctly several times.
I use the website, and I see all my active courses on one page per language, which I find helpful. The count at the top of the page helps encourage me to keep up with my reviews!
…basically that’s how you remember words – constant reminding until you know them. There’s still another test 180 days forward in time when all the other intervals have been finished.
