I’ve always been a fan of top-40 music. It doesn’t need to be complicated music for me to like it, just catchy. When it comes to asian pop, J-pop and K-pop had surprisingly catchy stuff, which is why I was surprised to find that C-pop is very slow and (sorry to those who might disagree) boring.
I’m wondering what sources you use to compliment your learning with Chinese music. I’m looking for upbeat stuff that can easily get in your head, perhaps like other asian pop. If there was a Chinese radio station that was a lot like, for example, Virgin Radio, it would really compliment my learning. Does anybody have any recommendations?
Please don’t post individual artists or songs. Just sources.
You tube is a great source when you target an artist. Besides some have the subtitles to help.
I would, despite your request not to be artist specific, recommend Teresa Teng (teng li chun or deng li june) whose texts’ and diction’s are quite clear.
But she also sings in Cantonese, which could be confusing when it is not identified.
You can install the kuwo.cn player and browse artists and genres there, and display the lyrics karaoke style on your screen. You can even watch the music videos on there. I’d also like to find more artists. I just browse and play the different playlists and save what I like. I also like 邓丽君 and also 王菲 and 张惠妹, but still I’d like to find more.
A Google or Baidu search should yield results, and Spotify and its competitors should also have playlists.
This is I think a good topic to share your favorite artists and songs, so please do so.
