Changes in multiple choice/writing test for longer words (since yesterday)

Today I noticed that memrise changed the way words are asked for in test, and it seems long sentences or words are now never asked to write out, and are now only asked in a multiple choice test (or tapping/sorting test if enabled).

It can be best seen when learning new words. Earlier one had to make 2 multiple choice tests in each direction and also two times write the word/sentence out to get it completely added to the long term memory words. But long words now have simply to be answered 6 times correctly in multiple choice tests (and/or tapping/sorting tests if they are enabled). The same is true also for words that are repeated after 100 days of not seeing them.
So the words you should really know by now without any hints. And these words are asked in a multiple choice test? thatā€™s ridiculous.

This is a really stupid change and makes learning with memrise again almost useless if you had created courses with not just infinitive forms of verbs.

Where is the sense in multiple choice test at all when it comes to learning? I mean it is nice if you read words for the first time, but after that is just wasting time and no real ā€˜testā€™. If I could I would completely remove multiple choice tests and make it writing test only.

I really hope this is just a bug! Now I donā€™t even want to repeat my old words because i donā€™t want to destroy my watering level of words that i just knew because i was seeing them in in one of the multiple answers. So now i am forced to just not repeat words at all or put a piece of paper or my hand in front of the part where the multiple choice answers are, to not let me see the correct one. Then think about it and then check for myself if i thought of the correct one and look for it in the possible answers. Compare it, and if i had a small mistake in my head, i have to click on purpose something wrong. For this i donā€™t need Memrise. And not doing this and answering the multiple choice questions correctly is not learning, but a huge lie to myself.

I have also noticed many multiple choice tests on review the last few days. I review every day so donā€™t think anything could be significantly overdue for review.

Very annoying! All the courses I do are typing only.

Came to make this thread. Hope someone on Memrise can comment today.

I noticed as well that a course on reflexive verbs - which used to be a typing course - prompted me only with multiple choice in the last two wateringsā€¦ that being only one example.

I do hope it is a bug, and not a feature - as on memrise, you never know (to quote cos for the 1000th timeā€¦ ).

given that this is at least the second thread on this issue, any reaction from the team, please??? @MemriseMatty , @Joshua, @Lien, @hung-phan, etc?

Yes, Iā€™ve noticed this too and completely agree. Memrise staff, please address this. Clicking the right answer on multiple choice is not helping me learn anything. Get it back to how it was, please.

I too was wondering if this was some new ā€œupgradeā€ on the algorithmeā€¦ or something. Hope to hear some feedback.
