Hi everyone!
I have been testing several apps and ways to learn languages for few months. And after doing it for only adding some vocabulary to my basic Japanese knowledge, I started learning more language (refresh my Spanish, and go from scratch on several language, from more immediately usefull to more “for fun” experience).
Something quite interesting to do when you learn several languages is to “cross learn” languages. Take one language you’re quite familiar with to learn beginner-level ones, and improve both (pushing you to think in the familiar one).
Anyway, I find it would be nice to be able to switch home language easily on Memrise. (To some extend, it’s possible on Duolingo for instance)
I noticed you can change the “I speak” parameter in the course selection, but you can’t dynamically do it. I learnt a Spanish course from French, and if I switch to English, the course has no progress.
Also, I noticed that the portuguese courses are presented in English even though I’m with “I speak French”. Does that mean that English is used by default if the other is not available ?
What do you think about this feature / these propositions ?
Thanks in advance, and I hope my English is clear enouh !
Manu
Hi Manu,
the language that can be set in the Settnigs only determines what language you will be using in the user interface, i. e. the Memrise website. It doesn’t affect course material.
(Note that there’s a separate setting in the apps too.)
The languages that you learning each have their own source and target language. That is, the course dictates what language you actually learn and from what other language is the source.
Et ton Anglais est très bien, ne t’inquiète pas!
