Not sure if this is on my end or a function of the site, but for the first hour or so of a course (‘Duolingo Dutch for English Speakers’) the default ‘Next Up’ option was ‘Learn new words’, which was perfect for me because I could run through the vocab at speed using the Enter key - just put on some music, get into a zone, and focus just on the words.
Then suddenly it changed to ‘Speed review’, which frankly I don’t like, and which doesn’t really help - I’m using this to complement Duolingo, so I just want to run through all the words I’ve already covered on that app. The change means I have to manually navigate to ‘Learn new words’, and makes me unclear if I’m following the course as laid out in the ‘Lessons’ page. This makes me much less inclined to use Memrise over something simpler like Quizlet, even if I have to use a less comprehensive word list.
Is there a way to change the default (back) to ‘Learn new words’? I’m puzzled by why it was set up perfectly for the first hour and then suddenly changed. I’ve attached a picture of what I mean - I can hit Enter to use the ‘Next Up’ button, which should be great, but it’s just the wrong link. At the moment I’m having to go through the ‘More’ tab instead. Thanks in advance.
Edit: It also sometimes defaults to ‘Difficult Words’, which as a pro option I can’t use, and then I’m not even sure what the words it shows me are. They don’t seem to correspond to the point in the course I’m at.

No, to us - the community - it is not known of any possible hack to workaround the nasty “mobile app next up option” behaviour.
I have the same issue that I only want to use “Classic review”, not “Difficult words” (no Pro), not “Speed review”.
And I clearly do not want to finish my Duolingo PT BR course by MartinPen as this would remove the “daily streak goal” from the web portal.
So to me it is pretty annoying that I can not strictly focus on REVIEWS for this course but instead of their system wants to randomly force me to “Learn new words” (the remaining unfinished bonus levels).
WARNING:
There has been a code update to the web portal recently which pretty much corrupted the course loading per all groups; now we also have got a “More” button on the groups tab. Jippie
Sorry for not having better news for you.
Basically we would need a way to hack into the dashboard course layout (user scripting) and add 1-2 buttons on the panel for ourselves, if this may be possible.
WORKAROUND #2:
Install the windows application PhraseExpress and define your own macros / hotkeys.
