Can't cancel subscription

Hello.

I currently have a PRO subscription but I would like to cancel due to certain reasons.
Everytime I click on ‘Go free’ the site gives me a 500 error.

How can I still cancel my subscription?

Tagging @MemriseSupport should get them to help you promptly with cancelling your subscription, and also get them to fix whatever problem is causing the server error on their end.

Hi @Niels_Koomans,

Have you deleted your Google account recently? i.e. Is your Google Play account associated with the subscription still active? This could be a possible cause for the error. Please let us know :slight_smile:

I recently deleted my old google account. I did change the email on my Memrise account tho, and the subscription was also linked to my paypal account.

Many thanks. We tried to cancel your subscription with Google directly, but an error occurred and it would not let us. It’s possible this bug relates to your Google account.

Can you contact them directly and ask them to stop your subscription?

I just reactivated my old account to see if the subscription was still active on the Play Store page but couldn’t find the subcription itself in the subscriptions page.

At this point I can’t do anything but shatter my egg-shaped skull against a brick wall out of annoyance.

Unfortunately it still does not let us cancel this subscription, although it did let us issue a refund. This may or may not arrive to your account shortly. (Sometimes refunding a payment can also cancel the subscription).

We would advise contacting Google directly to clarify - https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7100415?hl=en-GB - I have sent you a private message with your order no.

Never mind, I found out I was logged in on the wrong account :grin:
I found the subscription and I’m cancelling it right now.

Another never mind because I get the same error on Google as I get on Memrise

So according to Google Play Store (not the helpdesk) I did cancel my subscription. Is this directly visible or will it take some time before I can see the change on Memrise as well?

Btw: this might be a bug so I’m still going to contact Google with the order number you sent me @MemriseMatty

We suspect this is a bug on Google’s end, and would recommend contacting them directly to make sure you are not charged again :slight_smile:

I have a very unusual problem, I have a debit from Google on my paypal account for a subscription with Memrise.
I don’t use the app and I have tried several of my email addresses to try to cancel subscription / get a refund but I don’t what email was used hence I can cancel it.

Google tried to help me but for safety they can’t see the email account linked to memrise.

I need to solve this ASAP as it is a charge of £52 due in 3 days

PS: I do have the transaction id details from Paypal, so you should be able to look into it and locate this account linked to my paypal account, let me know where to send the details

I’m trying to cancel my subscription, not realizing that I’ve been paying for it for the past two years without using it. I don’t know if a refund is at all possible but I’m a little frustrated with the process of cancelling my subscription. I’ve followed the instructions given by the FAQ to cancel a debit card subscription and it’s leading me nowhere. After I visit the page for ‘settings’ there is no ‘account’ tab for me to go to where I can access my subscription information. I thought maybe my subscription was on an account other than this one but I can’t find any other accounts using my personal email information. I do have an option to simply delete my account entirely but in doing so I’m concerned that I would still end up being billed for a subscription. Can you help me with this problem?
