Cannot use memrise on phone without wifi

Keep getting a red box with the message “Sorry, there appears to be no network connection.” when trying to review words / learn new words.

Before you say, “Have you checked your phone is connected to the internet.” I’ll point out that I am posting this from my phone while not connected to wifi.

So far I have tried;
Restarting my phone (iPhone 7, iOS 11.1) - no effect
Removing and reinstalling the App - made it worse

Now I can’t even log in. The App opens and goes straight to a message “Oops, something went wrong. You may be out of internet fuel… Check your data tank and try again.”

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
have you checked if you’ve allowed Memrise to connect to the Internet without wifi?
Settings > Mobile data > Memrise?

I’ve never had an app that didn’t have that on by default.

Default should be Wifi+Phone, wifi-only should be opt-in. This should take 10 minutes to fix.
