I just tried out the beta, and it led to a worse experience for the hiragana & katakana courses I do as a warmup for the days I work on Japanese. More specifically, in the beta will play me a sound file and I have to type out the spelling of the hiragana/katakana in English, i.e. it will play the sound file for “sa” and I will have to type out ‘sa.’ This completely defeats the purpose of the practice, which is to associate sounds with the hira/kata. I don’t need to learn how to say ‘sa’ or how to spell it in English, I need to remember which character it matches with.
