I painstakingly wrote examples for hundreds of words only to discover that this attribute does not show up at all on the app version of Memrise. Is this something that will be fixed? I don’t want the attribute to show up in tests, it would give away the answer, but I do want it to show up when a student clicks on a word to learn and as extra information when they are first exposed to a word. What gives? This is kind of ridiculous. It’s not as though there isn’t space for it on the screen. There is plenty of blank space available.
If you click on the column name, you get the properties and can choose when to show what.
Does this help?
When creating a column you can select whether this is an attribute or not (the screenshot is from an attribute column).
If it’s non an attribute, i.e. something tested on, it appears like this:
Thank you for the response, but this isn’t the problem. I do not want the attribute to show up on the tests. I do want it to show up when the word is first introduced or when the student selects the word from the list of words in the level. On the desktop, all the attributes I have entered show up in these situations (and not on the tests as I’ve chosen them not to). On the phone, they do not show up where they should. Since all of my students are currently using their phones for Memrise and we may never have desktops, they are unable to view all of the example sentences and extra info (like verb conjugations) I have entered.
What you want, I want too, but unfortunately that is not how it works. It shows an attribute always or never. However, some can be initially ‘hidden’ by turning ‘Always show’ off. I believe in that case the user needs to click a ‘+’ button, but… not in the app.
So, on the phone, it’s always or never. But you could write them in the mem’s - again painstakingly… It’s frustrating, but I don’t have better news. You can only decide what is better: to show them always or never.
Update: just tested it. The attributes don’t appear on the phone at all. Strange, because in another course that I didn’t make, they do!
Have any update on this problem?
I do want to show attributes from the beginning when you start a new word. Attributes like pronunciation or part of speech do make it easier to remember words.
No update. Sorry.
