Okay, so I followed a bunch of people and some of them are getting like 8 million points a week, is it possible to cheat on Memrise? I can’t help but think these people are up to no good considering how much time it would take to get such a high score.
What’s cheating? They are either learning a lot or not at all. Only affects them.
There is another long discussion about this on the Forum. (Sorry not sure where.)
The previous topic of that kind resulted in shutting down of the global leaderboard (good riddance for some of us but sad for me). A couple more hot discussions over “cheating” might lead to shutdown of personal leaderboards as well… Please stop pressing the subject, just unfollow the people you don’t like.
He is asking if it is possible to cheat on the App. Not the philosophy or the virtue about cheating, it seems.
And yes, It is an absolute Cheating. BUT:
It is possible to make these points physically. There are lots of people who studies perpetually in Memrise. But it is excessively hard to make these points week after week, nearly impossible. To gain these points; you have to review 50.000 words in a week. You can make calculates to grasp the necessity of the Studying Time for per day, and the quantity of the reviews that has to be completed for per hour.
Most of the people who get these points are using cheat. You can be sure about it via checking their “Learnt Words” that shown in their profile. You can realize it by seeing the quantity of it. Its impossible to make these points for an individual who has 5k words learned so far. It’s technically impossible. These people exists in memrise. Just check their profile.
So, it is absolutely impossible to achieve it for particular people. That means they are cheating indubitably.
But it is possible to make it who has immense time to study and has wondrous enthusiasm to learn in Memrise and doing only -no typing- courses and doing them really really fast… All these means is;
Most of them are using cheat.
Yeah it’s most likely cheating. It took me a few weeks of very hard work to get 500,000 points! I don’t think it’s humanly possible to get 8 million points a week.
I wasn’t talk about virtue. I was talking about what it actually is. If people are here just to get points and to get to the top of a leaderboard then the person with the most points win. In this case the people they claim are cheating are just people who are better at that game then they are.
Like WildSage said, there’s a long discussion on the forums about this subject.
My personal advice…
The longer you are on Memrise the more points you make because you have a lot more things to review.
You can answer around 1500-1800 multiple choice questions tops within an hour, giving you 200k (x150) plus, do this 4-8 hours a day, you can get 8m+ given you have enough words to review.
Some people let it accumulate and then review them in one go, like in a day or a week. Or they just have a lot of words to review.
If they don’t have a considerable amount of words learned then there is no way they are making points by legit means.
From millions of users, some will cheat, some will be overly addicted, etc. there will be all kinds of users. It’s probabilistic.
Therefore, it’s best to iteratively take your past performance as a yardstick.
It’s easy to miss the point of this website.
It’s possible to get 8m points in a week from a “free points” course. I’ve gotten like 500k points in a few hours. Obviously, they aren’t earning it legitimately.
Hi @TechnobIade,
I’m under considerable pressure to reach 20 trillion (20000000000000) points as soon as possible. Please could you provide a link to the course you’re using?
