Disappointed is a good word to describe my current situation with memrise. I hope duolingo’s new platform is great, because memrise premium is too expensive especially if your national currency is worthless internationally. I hope the memrise team realizes this.

So, to make this clear. New Memrise users, no matter how long they use the app from now on, they won’t be able to download courses unless they pay for it right?
I agree that Memrise has its right to make money but it would be nice to give an option for people who can’t afford paying a monthly fee. Including ads for non-pro users is very common in Android apps and someone suggested being able to pay one course. I put a lot of work in my course because my students (who don’t have internet at home and can’t pay 9 dollars a month) could download the course once a week from the library and then practice whenever they wanted. Since last changes their practice has been dramatically reduced so I am thinking about other options to help my students practice the vocabulary we see in class. I understand Memrise is a private enterprise and they can do whatever they want with it but as a user and teacher I can’t avoid feeling a little disappointed with the new changes (specially compared with how it was working before, that it was awesome).
