[App Feedback] [App Idea] Create memrise offline dictionary where users can quickly add words to a personal memrise course

I have been using Memrise for the last few months to increase my spanish vocabulary as I’ve been traveling through Chile and Argentina. Although the provided courses are useful, the best course is one that has the specific words that you’ve been struggling with in real life as you use the language. I have a few different offline spanish dictionaries and phrasebooks on my phone that I use many times a day to quickly search for a word that I wish to know. At the moment I manually add words to my own memrise course by going through my search history on my offline dictionary and a simple note on my phone where I’ve written down important words that have come up.

The idea that I just had was how awesome it would be if there was a “Memrise” offline dictionary that would somehow allow users to use their search history to create simple personal courses of the words that they’ve been looking up. Having a course filled with relevant words is by far the best way to keep a person engaged with the material in my experience.

What do you guys think? I’d love feedback on the idea and see if people would actually use something like this if ever ever came into existence.

If you create a course on the website and add words one by one to the course, Memrise tries to find definitions from its dictionary. As far as I know that does not work on the apps. Are you talking about that?

Kind of. Myself and I’m sure almost every other person learning a language has a dictionary (either offline or online) installed on their phone that they regularly use to search words that they don’t know that come up in class, movies or tv, and conversation. Right now I am using the memrise website and manually going through my search history to find words that I didn’t know and I’m adding them to my own custom course. The suggestion is that it would be awesome if there was some way to either export and import these searches into Memrise or (even better) to have some sort of Memrise offline dictionary that integrates with the app and website. Basically I do like the courses that are provided through Memrise but nothing beats a list of words that you’ve actually encountered in the real world while learning that language.

it only works for some languages if the base language is English.
